Izzabella

It wasn't until the lunch bell rang did I start to feel uneasy about the whole partner situation. I mean he did give off a pretty intimidating aura and even though I knew everyone had some good in them, I wasn't to sure about this guy.

Since my mother egged me off of cafeteria food (for fear of contamination) I always brought a bagged lunch, but too make my day even worse, it appeared that I had forgotten to make it..

I sighed and stared into my locker. I had been lucky enough to snatch up a corner one just in time, but the locker to my left had always stayed empty.

I was aware that nobody was crowding me with invitations to party's, I got the occasional one, but it was very seldom. Even though I wished I could fully experience the high school life properly, I knew it would never be that way and I had come to terms with that.

Only a few students roamed the halls, most were in the cafeteria, munching on food and laughing obnoxiously. Myself, I preferred a quiet environment to eat my lunch, so I always chose to sit in the library, but since I so intelligently forgot to pack my lunch, I now had to go into the cafeteria and buy one against my own and my mothers wishes.

My body seemed to react in the complete opposite than I wanted to because my feet were now moving at running speed.

Once I reached the gray, steel, double doors, I took a deep breath and prepared myself for what was on the other side.

I was terrified to say the least, it had been years since I had stepped foot into this room. I took a deep breath, counted down from ten and inched the doors open

Well, I guess not many came late, because the majority stopped what they were doing to gape at me. I inched into the room slowly, head faced to the ground. I could feel the stares of some people lingering longer than socially acceptable and it made me very uncomfortable.

I was close to the lunch line and there were only a few people either going for seconds or just getting their food. I made my way to the back of the line and stood there quietly, by now mostly everyone had returned to what they had been doing before- eating. I knew there were a few glances here and there made in my direction though.

Its not like I didn't have friends, I did. I had spent so much time at the hospital in the past (not quite as much anymore) that's where I made all my friends. I wasn't the looser or nerd of the school, I was average.

"You look like a lost duck." Someone said from beside me. Startled, I flinched and then looked up to see whether I should use pepper spray or call the cops, but it was just Alex.

"Whatever.'' I mumbled. He stood by me as I moved up in line.

"You know, there just staring because your new."

"I'm not new." I snapped. ''I have been here since the tenth grade."

"Oh."

I shook my head. "Yeah. Oh."

"Why do I never see you around then?"

I laughed, but not because I found it relatively humorous. "You probably only notice the popular kids."

Alex shook his head. "No. That cant be right. I know who Rebbeca Yake is." He said, making a reference to the school nerd.

I shrugged. "Sometimes we see things we only want to see Alex." He was silent after that, but he still stayed and when I looked over his eyebrows were furrowed in deep concentration.

I walked out of the cafeteria more confidently this time, with my bag of food I sat down in a chair in a library, only to have Alex follow me with the same look on his face. Once we were seated he looked up at me.
