tord woke up to the sound of knocking on his door. he groaned, sitting up and rubbing his eyes with his palms. who the hell could possibly be here at 1 in the morning!? tord paused after the thought, sighing and murmuring, "it's matt, isn't it?"

the tired male got up and threw on a red hoodie to cover his bare chest, wearing only boxers under as he trudged to the door. tord flicked the light on and opened the door. there stood matt, clad in black sweats and a purple hoodie.

"do,, do you need anything, matt?" tord furrowed his eyebrows.

matt suddenly threw his arms around tord, pressing his face into his shorter friend's shoulder.

"edd and i fought." matt said, voice muffled through the cloth of the hoodie.

"oh. that's not good." tord awkwardly glanced to the side. he slowly brought his arms around matt, smiling at the warmth. "we can talk about it if you want."

matt pulled away and nodded, sniffling while making his way to the couch. tord shut the door, followed his friend, and sat next to him.

"so... what happened?" tord asked. he was caught by surprise when matt pulled his legs to his chest and leaned his head on tord's shoulder. tord was beet red by now, heart pounding.

"i don't know," matt sighed shakily. he closed his eyes. "he'd gone out earlier and when he came back, he was a little bit... i don't know. i think he was tipsy."

tord dug his teeth into his lip, immediately knowing who edd had been hanging out with. "well... fighting is healthy for a couple."

"that's true," the ginger frowned. "but it felt.. not good."

"i know." tord cringed inwardly as he continued, "um, tom and i fight sometimes. we get over it quickly though."

matt nodded. "maybe he'll be fine by tomorrow. today, technically, since it's 1 in the morning."

"mhm." he gazed down at matt's head, the soft tufts of ginger almost inviting tord to pet them. no, don't.

"thanks, tordsie. you're my best friend." matt reached up and pecked tord's cheek.

tord smiled stupidly, flustered. "you're my best friend too."

matt giggled. "remember in high school when we started that food fight?"

"yeah, and then we-"

"this is what it feels liiike
when you become
one of the drunks
this is what it-"

tord immediately grabbed his phone. "s- sorry, that's my ringtone."

"i like that song." matt playfully stuck his tongue out.

blushing, tord nodded. "mhm." he read the caller id, which said jehovah's witness. "i should take this, it's tom."

tord got up and shuffled away to his bedroom, clicking the green button. "hello?"

there was no reply, only the sound of two males. wait... tom and edd. at 1 in the morning!?

"uh, tom?" tord spoke and furrowed his eyebrows. it didn't take long for him to figure out this must've been a buttdial. he decided to listen in on their conversation.

"yeah, tord'ssss.. kind of a brat." that was tom's slurred voice.

there was the sound of edd's drunken laughter, then voice, "m- matt overreacts."

tord felt anger begin to bubble up inside him. what assholes!

"yeahh! tord's o- obsessed with 'em!" tom scoffed.

"i knowwww... matt t- talks about him *hic* a lottt." edd whined.

"p- probably 'cause they lost each other f-for, like... years."

"mmmhhhmm. at least you're fun!"

tom laughed. "i'm the best~"

tord hung up and tossed his phone on the bed, fists clenching. "i didn't take edd for the type of guy to hang with drunk losers." he growled under his breath.

"tord, what's taking so long?" matt called over.

"i'm done, sorry." tord left the room and returned to matt.

"good," matt leaned his head on his shoulder again and closed his eyes. "later today can we rollerblade?"

"rollerblade?" tord tilted his head in confusion. "that sounds fun, but... it's kind of random."

"i like rollerblading." matt smiled sleepily. "it's really fun."

noticing the way matt's body got heavier with sleep, tord stood up. "let's go to my room, you can sleep there."

too tired to protest, matt shrugged and got up. he leaned on tord for support while walking to his room. matt collapsed on the bed face-first, falling asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.

tord wistfully gazed at matt. all these years, and i thought he'd be mine. he pulled the blankets over the ginger's lanky body, eyes lidded. guess it's just not our time yet. "drøm søtt, min kjære." tord murmured.

he padded away from the bed and shut the door slowly, heading to the couch. tord lied down and pulled a blanket over his head. he shut his eyes tightly, wishing he were in bed with the other male. soon enough, a deep sleep enveloped his body, letting him dream of matt.
