once he saw you, his heart broke...
+++

you were on the floor, blood dripping down your mouth and dry tear-stains traced onto your s/c skin.
"брат, what happened to you?" yuri said, concern laced in his voice as he kneeled by your tired form. "you wouldn't understand, yuri. there's nothing you can do to help. after all... i'm just your брат..." you said, your voice.

"n/n, what do you mean?" yuri said, beginning to dab a wet towel onto your mouth, cleaning off the nearly dried blood. "you wouldn't be able to fix me," you spoke, wincing at the sharp pain in your jaw, "you wouldnt be able to fix this damned hanahaki disease..." yuri stopped abruptly.
"w-wha—"
"there's nothing you can do, yuri. all you can really do to help me is love me back the way i love you, but you only see me as a brother," you said, tears welling up again.
"m/n i-"
"if i knew this was gonna happen, i would never have talked to you back in elementary school..." you chuckled, though nothing about this situation was funny to either of you. you stood up, leaving yuri to stay stuck in his place, frozen in shock. you washed your face as yuri stayed silent and wide-eyed on the floor. suddenly, he broke out of his trance,

"m/n, why didn't you tell me?" he said, anger filling his voice. "what was i supposed to tell you, huh? that i'm fucking diseased because of a one-sided love for you?!" you shouted back.  "yes! of course! you tell me just that because thats what brothers do!" he said, looking up at you. "you fucking idiot, i don't want to be brothers! i want to be more! i want to be the face you see when you wake up, and the face you see before you sleep. i want to be the reason you smile, the person you say 'i love you' too, the shoulder you cry on. can't you see it, yuri? i want to be lovers!" you began to break down. a single tear slipped out of yuri, "i dont..." you scoffed, "yeah, no shit Sherlock." you pulled a rose petal from your mouth and dropped it at his feet, storming out of the ice rink.

yuri looked down at the petal, then back to one of the stalls. there was one with a trail of rose petals leading to toilet filled with blood and more petals, nearly filled to the brim. yuri couldn't help but begin to cry at the sight. his брат was sick, and it was all because of him...

Dear Loved-Ones,

I am sorry to say this, but I can't live on like this much longer. This stupid disease makes life harder than it is already. My mother and father left me when I was just a sophomore in high-school, leaving me to resort to my best friend and love interest as a crutch. There is no more hope left for me in this world. I've had this disease for almost ten years now, and it has proven to be nothing but torture. I can feel my insides burning as of right now while I'm writing this message. This is the end of the line for me, I'm sorry everybody...

yuri clutched the note in his hands, 'no, this isn't how you were going to go. he wasn't going to let that happen...'
"m/n!!" yuri called out to you through the streets of japan trying to find you, but to no avail. until he saw you across the other street, wearing nothing but a f/c t-shirt and some jeans and converse, walking down the sidewalk. no, not walking- running.

yuri tried to catch up to you, but he was too late. he had followed you through the city, chased you up a flight of stairs, and desperately tried to grab your hand as you fell backwards, falling from 60 feet above the ground. he was too late. he stayed like that, arms reaching down lazily, tears falling down his cheeks and following the same path you had taken. he saw a piece of paper move towards him because of the wind. he looked at it, eyes filling with tears as he unfolded the paper.

I love you, Yuri.
But it hurts too much to know its only one-sided...

and then he lost it.

yuri watched as they lowered your casket into the ground, wondering what he could have done to stop this. if he could have stopped it.

before the ambulance and paramedics began to take you away, yuri was able to get one quick glance at you. your body was bloody, your knee-bone protruding out of your skin and your face all bloody. you had a somewhat peaceful expression, as if you were a sleeping baby. he noticed the various cuts running up and down your arms, some new, some old. he watched in shock as they raised you into the ambulance and drove off quickly, siren blaring loud and clear.

they weren't able to save you, you had lost too much blood. they saw the roses caught in your lungs, and immediately called your death:

death by broken heart...

at your funeral, yuri couldn't help but wail the loudest of all the people that were there. there weren't that many, just dr. snow, the one who had diagnosed you, and his husband, yuuri and viktor, who were now a happily married couple, and yuri's parents, who were your parents growing from high school until the end of your life, which had come too soon.

"браaaaaт!!" yuri cried at your gravestone, eyes overflowing with tears. he continued to cry at your gravestone, otabek rubbing his back in a soothing manner, "shshsh, its okay моя любовь (my love), let it all out."

and he did. he cried until he was reduced to nothing more than whimpers and sniffles. "if only i had known otabek. would he still be alive?" he hugged his fiancé, burying his face in otabek's neck. "i'm sure it had nothing to do with if you had known or not, yuri. m/n made his choice, and now he is where he is," otabek shushed him soothingly, intertwining their hands. their beautiful engagement rings glistened in the moonlight. yuri sighed, putting the tiger plushie down next to the now wilted flowers that were once blooming with life. "shall we go now, моя любовь?" otabek asked his smaller husband to be, ad he just nodded, intertwining their hands as they walked away.

you watched every bit of it, not being able to tell them you were there, for your were clear...
