The crowd hushed as the lights dimmed. Screaming fans raised their voices to yell at the performer. Smoke filled the stage as rays of neon lights shone through the air. As the visual effects cleared a person could be seen. Looking closer, more people could be seen. It was a boy band. By all of the merchandise around the concert, it was easy to tell that it was 5SOS performing. 5 Seconds Of Summer was a popular band, good songs. But nothing that interested the girl who leaned against the wall in the corner as everyone else rushed to get closer to the band. She didn't care at all about the band, she was dragged along by a friend who had ditched her at one point.
Her raven hair fell flat on her back, straightened for the event. She wore an unbuttoned red and black flannel over a black tank top. It was paired with dark blue jeans and black combat boots. No makeup was on her face but she was anything but plain. Her eyes constantly went to her phone in her hand, tightly gripping the small device with the screen off. She let out a sigh and looked up, the band was jumping around the stage with a girl from the crowd. The restless people everywhere, not any space to move through the crowd.
There was no relief of the noise, not stopping even as they played a softer song. No eyes watched her as she walked out of the room, going into a hallway where there were concessions and tables to buy band merchandise. She ignored all of this as she kept walking, only slowing when she saw a poster about a toy drive for kids on Christmas. After a small shake of her head, she continued. The crowd was all in the one room, only a few stragglers hanging about in the maze of hallways. Silence was eminent until a sharp ping erupted from the phone in the raven haired girl's hand. There was an almost exuberant look in her eyes as she lifted the phone to her hand and checked the message.
Don't stay out too late! You still have school tomorrow. Get home within an hour so you can finish your homework.
As her eyes flicked across the screen she couldn't help but to roll them. Her mom was strict in the sense that she was overly involved in her life. It was seen as sweet from many of her friends, but annoying in the eyes of many other teenagers. Often times her mom was considered the "cool mom".
Elira! Answer me. Don't stay out. Come home soon. And you better not blow all of your money. Save some of it for the trip to Hawaii.
"I swear..." Elira stuffed her phone into the back pocket of her jeans and turned around. Her black hair was now slightly frizzy as it whipped behind her, falling flat again when she bumped into a person. She looked up to glare at them only to have her eyes widen in surprise. "Peter?"
He smiled sheepishly. His short brown hair was combed to the side, his build somewhere between lean and scrawny. "Hey, Elira. How you doing?"
"Fine.. But what are you doing here? It's just a bunch of boy bands. I wouldn't think that that's the kind of music you listen to." She looked at him with puzzled eyes, her arms crossed and an eyebrow raised.
"Well, I wouldn't think that this is your type of music either." His smile changed to a slight smirk as he dared his classmate to respond.
"Oh, please. It isn't my type of music. I'd rather be in a conflagration. I prefer rock. No other music even compares."
"Yeah, I hear you. Ned dragged me along. He had a date and wanted me to be here in case it got awkward. Which, by the way, is only awkward for me." His eyes flicked to the ground before swiftly going back up. "Have you done the homework? I found it to be easy but-"
He stopped when he saw Elira's expression. She hit her forehead with her hand and muttered under her breath. "Bueno, ahí va mi futuro." Elira looked up at him. "I totally forgot. What was it?"
"Well, all we had to do was the few problems in the textbook. I could walk you through one of them, if you want." Peter looked down, his cheeks slightly red. "Tu vida no ha terminado."
