Niall's POV
It all started on a Wednesday morning when Mum's radio says "Snow Day!" Greg runs out of his room screaming, "Dad, let's go make a snowman!"
I look outside, there's not even an inch of snow on the ground. In this part of England snow is not very common. Any sight of snow and we are out of school.
"You can try, but it's not sticking to the ground." Dad says to Greg
Dad works at the local school which means he has a snow day as well. I come downstairs for breakfast where mom is cooking. Mum cooking means we are having cereal or something easy to make.
"Well since you guys are off I should take the day off". Mum says. She works at a company on the other side of town. Mum going to work would mean her driving across town and she obviously doesn't want to do that today. Mum calls into work telling them she wouldn't be in today.
"How about we go visit grandma and grandpa?" Dad asks. We all agree since it isn't a long car ride and we have nothing else to do today. Our grandparents live in Chester which is a 45 minute drive from Holmes Chapel.
"We'll tell me when we are going to visit them, I'm going back to bed." I say.
"No practicing today?" Dad asks
"No, I forgot my bag at school because I didn't know we would be having no school."
"Oh no. No practice for 24 hours, how will you live?" Mum asks half serious, half joking.
I have an audition for London Contemporary Dance School or The Place in a few weeks. It's the first audition and if I make it past that, I get to be invited into the recall audition in February or April. The Place is a very hard school to get into. Only about 200 student are currently enrolled in the school right now. To be able to have an audition is amazing especially coming from the small town of Holmes Chapel.
"Oh I saw a picture of your boy in the paper today." Dad said. I came out to my parents when I was 13. My parents and the rest of my family were very supportive of me. When I was in year 10, I met Harry. He was in year 11. Harry is in a band with his three other mates, Liam, Louis, and Zayn. Their band, Something Like Memory, are only popular in our town. They got a record deal with Summer Records, a small record deal in Chester. I've gone too all the shows I have been able to go too. Mostly the ones in our town or the next town over.
"Are you going tonight?" Mum asks. They are playing in Northwich tonight, a 20 minute drive from our house.
"I probably am. Harry said it's sold out."
After breakfast we all go get ready for the trip to our grandparents house. A normal car ride for all of us is fighting over the radio. Mum wants the news, Dad wants rock, I want alternative or classical, and Greg wants the kids channel. I've started listening to alternative because of Harry. We all somehow agree on the news to listen about the roads. After the news is over we listen to classical. So Greg doesn't get bored, dad brought the personal disc player that way he can listen to whatever he wants instead of what's on the radio.
Whenever we are in the car and we have classical on the radio, I always look out the window and choreograph in my head. The styles I have trained in are ballet, contemporary, and modern.
My mum was the reason I was pushed into dance. As a guy it was harder, yet easier to get the roles in the ballets. Mum was a backup dancer for dad when he was in a band. Except the styles she trained in were jazz and modern.
Story Of My Life cover by The Piano Guys comes on. I've done a piece with a partner for a competition where we came in first overall for best duo. A Thousand Years comes on the radio next. This is the cover I am using for my audition. With the song playing, I start doing some of the movements in the back of the car while still looking out the window.
Mum looks back at me and smile when she sees me movie. Greg is movie his head around to the beat of his music in his seat.
Next thing I know, the car is flipped yet the music is still going.
The impact of the pickup truck going 60 MPH caused outright car to flip, ejecting us all. I wake up next to the car. I see a person lying in a ditch, I walk over there and recognize the person as me.
Am I dead?
Why am I here when my body is there?
Where's Greg and mum and dad?
I still here the radio playing A Thousand Years.
I hear the emergency sirens of the medics and the officers. I see officers running towards me and the other members of my family. I start running towards mum.
"DOA." One medic says.
"Just put a bag over her and put her in the car." Another says.
The medic by my father says the same thing, "DOA".
I start running towards Greg.
"This kid is still breathing, barely but is hanging on." One medic says.
"Get him into the ambulance now."
I see myself being lifted into another ambulance, I run towards that and jump in just before they close the doors.
"You hang in there." A nurse says to me right before we get to the hospital.
