Nineteen days.
Johnny had nineteen more days to show me whether or not I had any meaning, or relevance to being on this planet that I despised so much.

The kiss last night. I was not expecting that at all, and in fact my mind couldn't even process it the moment it happened. It didn't feel real.. at all.

After brushing my teeth I slipped on my fuzzy slippers being as quiet as I could, refraining from waking anyone up. 

Maddie and my mom were already downstairs putting eggs and bacon on their plate. Maddie looked at me and smiled. "Your plate is over there." She said pointing to the counter.

Wow, they made breakfast and didn't forget about me?

That's a first.

"Thank you." I said happily walking over to my plate.

I pulled out a chair and sat down, Maddie on my left and my mom on my right. "So Kenz." My mom said to me.

I looked up at her. "Yeah?" She looked up at Maddie, then down at her fork that was picking at her eggs. "Who's the new friend?"

"Johnny.. Why?" She shrugged her shoulders. "Just asking. You don't normally bring friends around." She said looking up at me.

"Well, I just met him the other day and he's helping me out with something." I said.

"What's he helping you out with?" Maddie asked.

It feels like they're asking me a million questions. Why am I the topic of the table? I couldn't tell Maddie or my mom why I'm hanging out with Johnny.

Why would I?

"Just a summer reading project for a club were in." I lied.

"You're in a club?" My mom asked not buying it. I looked at her, "Yeah, um, Ive been a little anti- social so I thought it would be nice to make some friends."

I cant believe those words actually came out of my mouth. I hate talking to people about myself or anything that has to do with me at all.

"That's cool." Maddie said.

"Yeah well, how have you been holding up ever since jack?" I asked her.

She shakes her head. "Really Kenz?"

"I was just checking on you. We don't talk that much anymore and I couldn't think of a better time to ask you." I defended myself.

My phone started to buzz. Johnny's name appeared on the screen. "I have to take this. Thank you for breakfast." I said leaving the table.

I took a deep breath before answering the phone. "Hi Johnny."

"Hey!" His deep voice had said over the phone making my heart beat faster.

"Um, what's up?" I said looking back at Maddie and my mom sitting at the table. "I was thinking I could take you to an amusement park?.. Like with roller coasters and stuff."

"I know what it is Johnny, um. Okay." I said lowly.

"Great, I'll pack some food for the road. It's about a 3 hour drive." He says.

I'd never been with anyone else besides my family for 3 hours. It's super weird but for some reason, like I've said before, I don't find any of this weird.

I'm starting to trust him?

"Mackenzie, text me when you get there okay?" My mom says looking at me, then Johnny. "Please take care of my daughter."

He nodded. "You won't have to worry Ms. Ziegler." He shot a warm smile.

Maddie runs over to me. "Bring me back one of those funnel cakes from the amusement park, with chocolate drizzles, Kenzie!"

I scrunched up my face. "No Maddie, it'll be soggy. I'll get you one while we're coming home k?"

She smiles. "You're the best! Thanks." She runs back inside. "Hey Kennedy." She says resuming her conversation.

"Anyways, I'm gonna go now before it gets late mom." I said hugging her. "Stay safe, I love you."

"Love you too." I said walking over to the trunk with my bag of snacks and emergency requirements.

Johnny looks at my bag. "I said bring food, not rob the hospital."

I shrugged my shoulders. "What? You need to be prepared for anything." I smiled.

He rolled his eyes, but I just laughed at him.

My mom watched Johnny back out of the driveway, and waved. I waved back at her with a slight smile on my face.

Kenzies Mom's POV.

Maddie comes up behind me. "Don't worry mom. She'll be okay. He's taking care of her I know he is." She pats my shoulder lightly.

"Okay."
