When she got home Penny pulled out her phone to call Mandi, "Listen to me, I know this amazing guy and I'm going to keep trying to convince him to go out with you. He said no at first because he was into someone, but I think I can bribe him. In the meantime go on your fifth date. It'll make you feel better." Penny groaned and got off the phone feeling pathetic and alone.
It didn't help that her date the next Friday canceled on her. She considered going to the bar anyways, but her friends ended up coming over to her apartment and having a game night to cheer her up. Penny threw herself harder into her job, even telling her boss all about her friends elaborate plans. Violet told her to suck it up and take the world by storm. It wasn't until the next Friday that Mandi had to throw away her tubs of ice cream and drag Penny out the door.
"Please go meet this guy. He's a great friend, I met him years ago through family and I know you'd love him. He has a real fancy restaurant picked out." Penny thought about protesting again, but decided to go on her last date. Might as well finish out what she started.
She didn't want to meet a new guy. She just wanted to call up Grant and date him. He seemed so nice and someone she could feel equal with. A boyfriend who would understand her.
She got there first and sat at a small table in the middle playing with the silverware. It really was a fancy place. The forks had little flowers on them that she traced with her fingers.
"Penny?" She looked up hearing a familiar voice.
"Grant?" Penny said shocked, "What are you doing here? I'm on a blind date. My last one in fact."
"Blind date huh? Didn't want to have the last one at the bar?" He asked teasing her, sitting down across from her.
"No sorry, speaking of, why aren't you at work?" Penny asked.
"I have a dinner date too." He said smiling, a twinkle in his eyes.
"Don't let me keep you waiting. I'm sure your wife won't like that." Penny replied, huffing a little.
"My wife?" Grant looked confused and then understanding crossed his face, "I'm not married. I wear a wedding ring at work so strangers don't try and pick me up. My boss's idea. You thought I was married this whole time?"
"Oh-well yeah. Then what are you doing here?" Penny asked.
"I'm your date." Grant said matter-of-factly. A big smile spreading across him gorgeous face.
"You are?" Penny asked, looking at him with home. She then took in his amazing suit with a blue skinny tie that brought out the lightness of his eyes. Quite the improvement from his work shirt and apron.
"Mandi and my parents grew up together. I had no idea you were the girl she kept trying to set me up with. I said no when she asked a few weeks ago because that was the night you came in with your date." He stated.
Penny smiled brightly at him, "Oh. Well, did you want a drink? I'll go grab them."
"Sco-" Grant started.
Penny cut him off and said, "Scotch on the rocks with a twist. I remember."
