~ Maria's POV ~ I had finished getting ready and now Gabbie and I are on our way to Sam's. She was driving. When we got there she parked and we walked through the gate and walked inside. There was a lot of people there and it seemed like fun. I saw Sam and jumped on his back and he held me up.
"Happy birthday, Sammy boy!" I said.
"Thank you!" He said and I got down. "There are drinks in the kitchen and in the backyard at the bar." He said.
"Sweet." I said and walked out the house and saw Devyn and Kat and we hugged. I pulled away and went and got a drink. I sat down and started drinking.
"Hey, so do you hate me for earlier?" Colby asked sitting beside me.
"No, I don't." I said.
"Then why did you just run out on me like that?" He asked. I sighed.
"I was scared okay? The last relationship I was in kinda went south because the guy was abusive." I said.
"He beat you?" He asked.
"Yeah." I said. "It took so long to get out of that relationship." I said.
"I understand that, but you could've told me instead of running out and ignoring my calls." He said.
"I know, sorry." I said and drank my drink and got another. "But I'm only here for Sam tonight." I said and got up and went inside and had a fun time. Colby seemed down all night because of our conversation. I was next to Sam when Elton brought the cake out. Colby was on the other side of him.
"Sam, I'm going to bed. Have a good rest of your birthday." Colby said and made his way through the crowed. Sam and I looked at each other.
"Go ahead." He said. I shook my head no. They lit the candles and he blew them out and they cut the cake. I took two plates and put a slice of cake on each one and grabbed two forks and I walked through the crowd and made my way upstairs. I walked to Colby's room and knocked. He opened the door and saw me.
"Hey, I brought you a slice of cake." I said and held the plate out. He took it. "Can I come in?" I asked. He nodded and moved to the side. I walked in and he shut the door. I sat on the desk chair and he sat on the couch. We started eating the cake. "Are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" He asked.
"Because ever since our conversation from earlier, you've been down." I said.
"I'm fine." He said.
"Okay." I wasn't gonna press the matter even more. He sighed.
"I'm not meaning to sound like an ass, I'm just irritated." He said. I nodded.
"Colby, I do like you, okay? I'm just not ready to be in a relationship." I said.
"I understand that and that's fine. We can take it day by day." He said. I nodded. We finished eating our slices of cake and he grabbed the plates and forks and we walked out of his room and I shut the door and we walked downstairs and he took the plates and forks to the sink. I followed. A guy came over to me and he was really drunk.
"Hey, hot stuff, wanna make out?" He asked. Colby wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me to him.
"She's with me, Todd." Colby said and the Todd guy walked off.
"Wanna get outta here?" I asked. He nodded. I went and said bye to Sam and we grabbed our stuff and walked out and we got in his car and he started it and drove off. I wonder where we're gonna go.
