I ran down the steps to my basement. It smelled like Christmas trees and new shoes down there. I spotted one of the brown card board boxes labeled with black marker. It said "PICTURES OF SCARLETT AND MOM." Scarlett was my little sister. She had seizures and died when she was 3. She was my little Angel. And she still is. My fingers brushed the words as I opened the box and pulled one of pictures out. It was from Christmas when I was 8. Scarlett was sitting next to me laughing and I was hugging our little pug named Stevie. We had gotten him for a present that day. I was going through some hard times. I was getting bullied, my mom had just been diagnosed with cancer, and the doctor said Scarlett would die in 2 weeks. Of course we didn't tell her that. Scarlett died 3 days later, and Mom died 5 months later. It was pretty tough, not to mention I was only 8 and I lost 2 people in 1 year. I was a mama's girl and Scarlett was my life, so it really tore me up. Since I was so young, I don't really remember a lot of stuff from when they were still alive.
I didn't even realize that I was crying until my cheeks were stained wet with tears. I decided to take one of the family portraits s from my gallery and post it on instagram. The caption was '#tbt to when I still had my two favorite people.' Seconds later, my notifications blew up. Nash, one of my bullies commented '#NoOneGivesAShit
My bullies were Taylor, Nash, Cameron, Matt, Aaron, Carter, Brent, Gilinsky, and Johnson. Yes there were 9 of them. Don't ask how I put up with them because I'm on my last string
I wiped those thoughts from my mind and set the the picture back down in the box gentle enough not to ruin it. I ran upstairs and up to my room. I needed to start getting ready, or I'd be late for school.
I put on a white long sleeved striped shirt with maroon jeans and through my leather jacket over it with white sneakers. I through my hair up in a messy bun. I never wear makeup. Then, I brushed my teeth. I ran downstairs to leave. I don't usually eat breakfast.
"I heard you in the basement," my dad said, pulling me into a hug.
"Yeah, I was looking at pictures of mom." I said, blinking the tears that had been forming in my eyes away.
"I love you." he said kissing my forehead.
"I love you too." I said, pecking his cheek. I grabbed my black book bag off of the kitchen table. I walked outside only to be blasted in the face with cold air and rain. Living in Indiana was terrible in the winter. It was always really cold. I live in Princeton, Indiana. When I drove into the school parking lot, I tossed my apple into the trash can and walked through the gates of hell. (Or school... whatever floats your boat) I sniffed in. The smell of artificial people. I thought. I saw Taylor, and his little group of hooligans. I began walking quicker until I felt like I was running at full speed past them. Probably not the best idea considering I was a severe asthmatic. I caught up with my friends Katy, Riley, and Kiera.
"Hey!" I panted, out of breath.
"Hey!" they replied giggling. I giggled, too. Nash and Katy were dating, but she didn't know he bullied me. No one did. We talked about our weekends and then parted our separate ways to our classes. I sat down in the back of the room and dropped my book bag on the ground. It smacked down louder than I had intended.
I zoned out in almost every class, making the day go by very quick. I never ate lunch because Taylor always called me fat. I collected all of my homework and rushed past the crowds of kids. I got a text from Katy saying that her Riley, and Kiera were going dress shopping if I wanted to go. I agreed. Our school was having a Christmas ball before winter break. We stopped at Starbucks on the way and we all got pumpkin spice lattes. They were all going to the dance with their boyfriends. Katy and Nash, Riley and Matt, and Kiera and Aaron.
Guys never really liked me because I was awkward, and shy, and uncomfortable. But my friends got all the guys. They all had perfect skin and the perfect curves that all the guys wanted. Katy had long dirty blonde hair and crystal blue orbs that were the color of the ocean. Riley had brown, wavy hair that was about down to her waist. Long, I know. She also had big, shiny, grey eyes. And Kiera had perfectly straight, jet black hair and large, glassy green eyes. I had freckles and green eyes like my mom. I had curly very long blonde hair and I was very short. I also had enormous green eyes that were too big for my head. Plus, I wasn't curvy like them. I was 5 foot, which I didn't understand considering both of my parents were tall. But even if I didn't get asked to the dance, I still wanted to go and have a good time. Even though I knew I'd be bored out of my mind. Plus Katy begged me to come. So as a good friend, I couldn't say no. I needed to get out and have a good time. I never really get out.
Being teenage girls, we decided to go to the mall for dresses. We stopped in a store I've never really heard of, and the girls all ran around looking at dresses. They picked some out for me, too. I tried them on and decided on a black prom-style dress with some silver pumps. The rest of the girls picked out their outfits for the dance and then we paid. We went back to Riley's place and watched The Nightmare before Christmas before falling asleep in her living room.
