Chapter 2

Emily found herself wishing she had brought another book as she sat in the passenger seat of Ella's car. She didn't know why she agreed to go to the party, it definitely wasn't her type of scene, but she wanted to be different. More social. It was just hard. She felt like she was too quiet, too awkward. And she didn't get along with most people.

"Whatcha thinking about, kid?" Ella asked nudging Emily with her elbow.

"You do realize you're like, 10 months older than me, right?" Emily asked with a soft giggle.

"Eh, semantics." Her best friend said with a wave of her hand. "Really though, are you doing alright? You've been quiet." Like that was anything new, Emily thought.

"I was just thinking about how I wish I had brought another book is all." Emily said lifting the book she was currently reading. She only had a few more chapters left, and she had a feeling Ella would want to be at the party for a while, especially seeing as it was Ryan's party.

"Are you sure you don't want me to drop you off at the apartment? It's not too late."

"No, I'm fine, really. Don't even worry about it." Emily tried to encourage her friend. She knew how badly Ella wanted to go to this party and she also knew that she wouldn't want to go alone, even though Emily would most likely end up spending a lot of the party by herself once Ella found Ryan. Her boytoys usually didn't like it when the awkward friend hung around.

You're sure?" Ella questioned one last time.

"Definitely." Emily replied. She looked out the window trying to do anything other than read her book, she needed to save that for the party. "Where is this party, anyway?"

"It's on campus actually, one of the frat houses. Kappa Tau, I think." Ella answered. Emily nodded her head in response as she thought back to the matches tonight, more specifically, the last match of the night. She couldn't get the guy with the tattoos out of her head. Tyler.

"You think any of the other fighters will be there?" Emily found herself asking. Ella snapped her head in Emily's direction, thankfully her best friend was still looking out the window, so she was blissfully unaware of Ella's stare.

"I don't know, maybe. Probably depends on which ones, I guess. Why do you ask?" Ella asked in a casual tone, one eyebrow quirked up. She already had an idea of where this conversation was going. And she didn't like it.

"You think the last fighter of the night will be there. The one with the tattoos?" Emily asked, her cheeks tinted pink. She didn't know why she asked, it's not like a guy like him would be interested in someone like her. Not that she was looking to be with anyone anyway.

"I doubt it. Guys like that don't go to college parties. Especially not frat parties. I have a feeling it's really not his type of scene." Ella answered truthfully. "But, if he is there. Be careful." She added taking a moment to look over at her best friend. Emily looked back at her confused.

"What do you mean?" She asked, genuinely not understanding what her friend was getting at.

"I mean, guys like him are usually only after one thing and I refuse to watch another guy hurt you again. So, if you're interested, just . . . tread carefully." Ella clarified. Emily looked over with a small smile on her face. A sad smile.

"I appreciate that you're concerned, but honestly? I really don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm sure I'm not the type of girl he'd usually go for."

"Please. You're a knockout. A total babe! And you'd be surprised by the number of guys I've caught looking your way that you don't even notice." Tyler included, she thought.
