Chapter 2

"The City Council would like me to remind you that the dog park is off limits. Dogs are not allowed in the dog park, people are not allowed in the dog park." The voice continued to echo through the Impala. Despite both the brothers' efforts to change the station, the same voice continued to echoed through the car. Dean had driven them into a small town in the middle of the desert. Literally, in the middle of the desert surrounded by vast emptiness. The town looked like any another town; a road splitting the town in half, an Arby's sitting across from a Big Ricco's Pizza and a Taco Bell next to the Arby's. There were small houses in the town, of course, and a giant area sealed off from the town by silver fences. There were signs plastered on the walls saying things like DOG PARK and NO ADMITTANCE and DO NOT APPROACH. "Do not look at the dog park for any amount of time. Do not approach the dog park. If you see hooded figures near the dog park, do not approach them. The dog park will not harm you."

Sam and Dean exchanged looks. What kind of a town was this anyway? "Listeners," the voice on the radio continued. "We have some new visitors. Two men, one in a leather jacket and one in a plaid jacket somewhat resembling a moose, driving a nineteen sixty-seven Chevy Impala. Correction: THREE men, the third man has a blue tie and a tan jacket and a face like a puppy. He is not to be confused with The Man in the Tan Jacket, who's face is unknowable." Dean glanced behind him and wasn't surprised to find Castiel in the back seat.

"Cas, what are you doing here?" Dean said, pulling over to the side of the road.

"You can't be here, Dean." Cas said. He looked troubled.

"More on these three strangers, as it develops." The voice through the radio said. Cas cocked his head to the side as he looked at the radio. There was a sound like wings flapping and Castiel was gone.

"Where do you think he went?" Sam asked Dean.

Cecil was sitting in his office, broadcasting the Night Vale news as always. He always liked this job, ever since he was a boy. The only downside was that Cecil kept losing his interns. You can't find good help these days. There was Intern Chad, who never returned from the sporting goods store, Intern Jerry, who was taken by Office Management, Intern Leland, who was vaporized, Interns Brad and Stacy, Cecil was never sure what really happened to them. Then there was the issue with Intern Dana and Intern Dana's Doppelganger, one of them had killed the other (he doesn't know which one killed which) and then proceeded to get trapped in the forbidden dog park, Intern Richard, who became one with the Whispering Forest, Intern Paolo, who was lost to the Summer Reading Program, and, finally, Intern Dylan, who was lost in the subway system.

"More on these three strangers, as it develops." He said into the microphone. Cecil leaned back and ran a hand though his short, blonde hair. There was a whooshing sound, which was an unusual sound even for Night Vale, and he saw the man in the blue tie and tan jacket that had just entered his little town.

"Um, more on these strangers right now." Cecil said keeping his eyes on stranger standing in his office. "The man in the blue tie and tan jacket, not to be confused with The Man in the Tan Jacket, has just appeared in my office. He has a little scruff and is currently starring at me with his head cocked to the side like a puppy." Cecil looked back up at the man; his expression hadn't changed. "Listeners, I take you to a word from our sponsor while I take care of this..... whatever this is." He singled to Intern Maureen, who switched over to the segment from the sponsor. Cecil took off his headphones, and stood to face the man in his office.

"I am Cecil Palmer," he held out a hand to the man.

"I am Castiel." The other man's voice was low and deep. Cecil never thought that anyone could have a voice as beautiful, possibly more beautiful, than his Carlos. "I am an angel of the Lord."

Cecil took his hand back with a chuckle. "Angels, sir, do not exist." He straightened his purple bow tie and smoothed down his gray vest. "Now, if you will excuse me, I have a show to run." He returned to the seat and placed his headphones back on. "The mysterious lights about a hundred feet above the Arby's are still a hundred feet in the sky and are still mysterious. Ladies and gentleman, we have no idea what these other worldly beings want with us but we are fortunate that these beings have chosen to hover a hundred feet above OUR Arby's." Castiel was still standing there, starring at Cecil. "Um, let's go to the weekly calendar. Monday has been categorized as 'irrelevant.' Tuesday is extremely important. Wednesday has been cancelled due to a scheduling error. Thursday is. That's it. It just is. Friday has been rescheduled to next Monday. Saturday will no longer exist. And Sunday is, once again, Dot Day! Remember: red dots on what you love, blue dots on what you don't. Mixing those up can cause PERMANENT consequences." Castiel was still standing in Cecil's office. "Listeners, I find myself in an usual situation. The stranger in the blue tie and tan jacket - who's name is Castiel, according to the man himself - has not left my office. He has been continuously starring at me since he arrived. I am beginning to feel uneasy."
