Chapter 10

Cas burst through Old Woman Josie's door, Maureen at his heels. "Balthazar! Gabriel! Miss Josie?" Cas scanned the house, and felt his heart sink. The house completely empty. The old flower patterned armchair and matching couch were gone, as were the coffee table and small table that Old Woman Josie had used yesterday to place her tea on. The house was empty, no sign of Josie or her angels. Cas scanned past the row of stools by the counter, where Gabriel had been before. Cas scanned past the stools, and had to do a double take. It was as if Gabriel hadn't moved since the last time Cas saw him. Same stool, same arms outstretched, same glass in hand.

"They're gone, Cas," said Gabriel. "Balthazar, the Erikas, Josie, all of them." Maureen peeked her head around Cas to look at Gabriel. "Who's your friend?"

"We need help, Gabriel." replied Cas, ignoring his question. "Kevin has taken the Winchesters, and we need to help them."

"We already told you," Gabriel rolled his eyes. "Should've taken our advice and left when you still had a chance."

Cas raised an eyebrow at him. "You didn't leave. Why?" Now, it was Gabe's turn to ignore a question. He took a sip of the whiskey in his hand, and returned to the conversation.

"I'm sorry Cas," Gabe said. "I can't help rescue your boyfriend and his moose of a brother." Cas heard Maureen whisper "I knew it" at the word "boyfriend," but he didn't say anything.

But Cas wasn't giving up on Dean just yet. "You have to have something to help us, anything." Gabriel sighed and reached into his jacket pocket, and retrieved an angel blade.

"You're not gonna be able to kill Kevin with anything else," Gabriel said, carefully holding the blade in his fingers. "In case you haven't noticed, physics don't really apply in Night Vale. You can't shoot him with a gun, here, for example." He was looking at the blade in his hands, lightly turning it over. "But this might just do the trick. Don't miss." He handed the blade to Cas, and took another sip of whiskey. "Now go save your boyfriend." With the angel blade in their hand, Castiel and Maureen left Old Woman Josie's house to rescue, as Gabe put it, Cas' boyfriend.
