No one knows how this all started. No one knows if it'll end. All I know is that the world's gone to shit, and it'll never be quite the same again.

This whole thing started when I was ten, two years ago. I was at school at the start of it. Still don't know where my family is, or if they're even alive. When I first saw those things walking around, eating people, tearing them apart, I was sure I wouldn't last a day. But I've made it this far.

It's weird to think about the way things were before. All kids wanted was to grow up. I did too. But what I would do to be sitting in my room, playing Pokemon, not giving a care in the world.

This sounds stupid and childish, but this just isn't fair! Billions of people before me got to live nice, peaceful lives. They got to live long, happy lives, not having to worry about the possibility of losing their life and becoming a monster at every moment But now here I am, a twelve-year-old girl, all alone, living every second in fear of the next. I'm never going to grow up or get married or do anything they got to do.

I have to fight for every day. I guess that's just how it works now...

At the beginning of all this, I was on the school bus, riding home, eager to get home and see my parents, who were supposed to be back from their trip to New York. But they weren't there. I took out my phone to call them, worried.

I had three voicemails, all from them. I found that strange, they knew I was in school. I listened to the first one to hear my mom's voice.

"I'm so sorry we're late, (Y/n)! It's gonna be another day or two, I'm guessing. Your dad was attacked by some crazy guy and is in the hospital. Don't worry, he'll be okay! Ashlynn should be home from work soon! Talk to you later, Sweetie!"

Ashlynn is my older sister. She's six years older than me, so she was sixteen at the time. She'd be eighteen now...

I listened to the the next voicemail.

"(Y/n)! Get a knife from the kitchen and hide until Ashlynn gets home okay? Don't open the door for anyone except her, even if you know them!"

I ran into the kitchen and grabbed a steak knife. I listened to the third one.

"(Y/n), please call me when you get home from school, let me know you're safe, alright? Things are crazy here, and I don't know what's going on, or if it's the same where you are or anything! Just--" It ended there.

I quickly dialed the number. No one answered. I called again and again, scared out of my mind, when the glass back door shattered.

People, looking as if they had been torn apart piled in. The rushed toward me. I climbed up on the counter, trapped.

I backed up as far as I could as they grabbed at my feet. I held up my knife. "I'll do it!" I yelled. They just kept trying to pull me down. "Fine!"

I stabbed one in the head and it crumbed to the floor.

"Don't wanna end up like that, do you?" They didn't even seem to hear me."Y-you asked for it!" I took them out one by one, stabbing the last one in the chest, sending it to the ground.

The front door swung open. It's Ashlynn. "Why wouldn't you open the door?!" I guessed that she kicked it in. She stomped into the kitchen. "Holy shit! Did you do this?!" she asked in disbelief.

"Yeah I--" something grabbed my leg and pulled me down, causing me to drop my knife. It was the one I stabbed in the chest. I didn't understand how it was possible. I screamed and Ashlynn shot it in the head. I scrambled up.

"We need to get out of here!" she commanded.

"What about Mom and Dad?!" I demanded.

"You and I both know they aren't coming back,"

I knew she was right. I followed her out the door, leaving our old life behind us.

I knew then, nothing would ever be the same again.

We jumped into our neighbors car. The keys were on the ground, so I assumed they were dead

        She started the car.

        "You don't have a driver's liscense!" I pointed out.

        "Who cares?"

        "Um, me!"

"You wanna stay here and die or let me drive?"

        "Drive away!"

She speeded through the neighbor hood, hitting just about everything there was to hit.

        "WOOHOO!" I shouted.

Soon we came across an old Costco. She went in and cleared it. There weren't as many of them as you'd have thought. We slept there. The next morning, as I ate a bowl of Lucky Charms, some people burst in. We ran and hid just in time.

We climbed up the shelves. One of them saw us. Ashlynn threw a large box at him.

        "Run!"

I jumped down with her behind me. They tried to stop us, but I ran past. I got out of the store and she wasn't behind me. I tried to get back in, but there were people coming after me, too many to fight. I had no choice but to run.

Since then I've been all alone.
