Elise had always been the campus belle of her school. Rumours was that none of her relationships with her boyfriend last long because after a month, they always disappeared into thin air and were never found.

Her brother, Jansen had always supported the rumours and telling everyone not to date his sister. He claimed that her sister brought bad luck and that everyone should keep a distance from her. But of course, all the boys thought that he's just trying to protect his sister.

But John, Elise's classmate, does not believe the rumours. He decided to ask Elise to be his girlfriend. He gathered up his courage, bought a bouquet of red roses and left, heading towards Elise's house.

After taking a deep breath in, John knocked on her door. A few seconds later, the door opened and Elise looked at him, confusion was written all over her face but she covered it up with a smile.

“Yes?" Elise asked. Her eyes then traveled from him to the bouquet of roses. Her eyes widen at the sight of the beautiful flowers. Something flashed through her eyes - fear? Dread? But before he could look closely, it's gone. John decided to forget about it as he cleared his throat.

“Hey Elise, I don't mean to sound like a creep but I've been interested in you since freshman year," John said, smiling. “Oh and these roses are for you," John said as he handed the bouquet to Elise.

Elise took it and admired the bouquet for a while. “They're lovely, thank you," she smiled as she said.

John chuckled a bit. “So- " before he could asked Elise to be his girlfriend, Elise cut in. “I need some time to think, meet me at the old wooden cottage in the woods at 8 p.m. and I'll give you an answer."

John nodded. After saying goodbye to each other, he left.

After waiting for a few hours, it's almost time to meet Elise. John left his house and went to the woods. The woods that looked perfectly normal during the day looked creepy when the sun was not there to shine on it.

John started to enter the woods. He felt unsettled. Something told him that this was a bad idea that he should just turn around and left. But if he left, it would leave a bad impression to Elise. Gritting his teeth, he continued to head towards the old wooden cottage.

When he reached the cottage, Elise was not there yet. Since there's a lot of mosquitoes outside, he entered the wooden cottage. The Moon was the only source of light as it shone in through the window. Inside the cottage were a wooden table and two wooden chairs.

There's a piece of paper on the table. It raised John's curiosity as the cottage had been abandoned for a few decades. He slowly walked towards the table and picked up the paper. Turns out it's a note from Elise. Curiously, he started to read.

The note:

John, I'm sorry. You had always been careful and never make any mistakes in your life. But now you made a mistake, and it's a big one. You can't get out of this and I'm very sorry for I'm part of this. This is a trap. I have to do this, it's you or me. Once again I'm truly sorry.  I hope God will help you and save you a sit in heaven. Goodbye.

- Elise

John's eyes widen as he finished reading the note. The note didn't told much but it made John felt chills crawling up his spine.

“So you're done?" A deep voice sounded from a corner. John jumped a bit as he turned around to look at the speaker. It's too dark to make out who that person was but he knew it's a male.

“Wh- who's there? Where's Elise?" John asked, stammering a bit as fear started to get him.

“Oh don't worry, she's safe. But you? Don't think so. Any last words?" The man asked from the corner. John could only make out the silhouette. It looked like... but it couldn't be.

John stayed silent as he gripped the paper tighter, racking his brain as he went through the possibilities of who the man could be.

“None? Oh well, that save me some time. I can have my dinner now then," the man said.

The man then stood up from the corner and slowly walked towards John. He took out a knife from behind him. John's eyes widen as the man walked into the moonlight and saw who he was.

The same dark brown hair. The same green eyes. The only thing that's not the same was the kind smile which was now gone as it's replaced by a cruel smirk.

It was Jansen.

That was John's last thoughts as the knife slashed towards him.
