Chapter 7: To Poland
October the 5th, 1939, 10:00.
Near Leipzig, Germany
The first few hours of the trip went by eventless. Otto was reading something, though I am sure he was avoiding me the whole time, and the two soldiers were still asleep. The right one was laying his head on the left's shoulder.
Will they ever wake up?
I tried to sleep, too, the inn's bed was not very comfortable and waking up with a big spotlight against your face in the middle of the night, just so you could notice that your friend, who was sleeping by your side the last time you checked, was throwing his organs up in the nearby bathroom, did not make it any easier for me.
We were twenty minutes away from the first stop, when our cabin partners finally moved. They straightened their backs, looked at each other and kissed.
Yes. They kissed.
I watched Otto drop his book in the corner of my eyes and chuckled, just then they noticed our presence. The left soldier turned his head from his lover to us and, smiling, said a very normal, "Hello!"
"Hi..." I started, not sure how to continue.
I was better than Otto, who was trying to pick his book from the gap that existed beside his seat. Both soldiers then straightened themselves on their seats and were now facing us.
"Well, this is awkward... I didn't see you there." Said the left, green-eyed one. The right, brown-eyed one was still blushing. "I am Günther!"
"I am Hilde." Said the right, in a very. very. feminine voice. Also, this name... Is it a woman?
"I am Braun," I said. I waited for Otto to say something, but he was still trying to pick his book.
I poked his back, he turned and waved with one hand, the other still in the gap between his seat and the wall. Why was there a gap anyway?
"I am Otto!"
I heard an "a-ha!" sound and Otto finally sat straight on his seat, holding his book.
"So, are you two together?" Otto said bluntly. Oh, as subtle as an elephant kick.
"Yes." Said the left one, Günther. "Hilde is my girlfriend for seven months now."
"Wait, girlfriend?" I said, so it is a woman! "But, how did she get here? I thought only men could be soldiers."
"That's true," Hilde said. Honestly, how could I not have noticed it was a woman? It was all over her, I must be so blind. "But I jumped aboard from the rails to the back of the train and sneaked my way here. I fooled them all, so now I guess I am a part of the war.
"And what about your family?" Asked Otto.
"It is my life, they do not have the right to decide what I do, I am not a child anymore." She smiled.
"That was so hot!"Günther said, pulling himself over her for yet another passionate, evolving and, frankly, long kiss.
I do not mind any sort of public display of affection, I think love is beautiful, but this was too much! It was almost as though they would start having sex at any moment.
