"You're being super sus." I said as I clipped my backpack to my chest.
"Why are you so worried about me! I'm fine, boo. I'm happy. Really. I just got some things I gotta figure out." Chris smiled reassuringly.
I squinted suspiciously with a slight smirk as I grabbed another bag of random camping gear, hucking it over my shoulder and walking beside him.
"We ready everyone? We're not coming up to the car unless we need to use our phones! There's no signal out at the site!" Lisa announced.
"Ready Ma!" The Evans siblings agreed,
"Ready Mumma!" I smiled too as I turned off my phone and clipped it into the backpack pocket.
We started our hike to the campsite, Lisa and Shanna in front, then Scott and Carly, then Chris and I. The walk was filled with talk amongst ourselves, giggles, hushed voices about my birthday surprise, and the sound of leaves and sticks crunching under foot. For the most part, Chris and I were silent until,
"Gah, I can't believe you're turning 18." He threw his head back in disbelief as he held onto both back pack straps.
"I know! I'll finally be legal!" I giggled excitedly!
Chris gave me a side eye and a smile,
"Gonna have all the boys on ya even more now huh? Playing field just got bigger." He chuckled."Ooo did I just sense a little overprotective Chris?" I chuckled back and nudged him.
"Nah, it's not even like that! You're my girl, those guys don't stand a chance." Chris joked back at me with a small smile!
"They don't." I confirmed with the same small smile as we walked.
"How's cheer going?" Chris asked simply as he tried catching up like he usually did.
"Great! We have another comp coming up in the spring after hell week. Then off to Texas for Navarro tryouts. I want you to come... if you have time off that is." I added honestly.
"You know I'll be there, baby. As long as I get the time off." He nudged me with a sweet smile.
"What about you? How's filming going, Captain." I teased.
"Ahhh! It's going good. Exhausting! Missing my girl like crazy!" He winked at me.
"Stop haha! I call you every day!" I argued!
"Sometimes phone calls don't do it." Chris admitted sweetly, with a sadness in his voice.
"Hey.. it's almost over baby.." I squeezed his hand sweetly.
"I know, I know! Soon you'll be back to buggin me every day!" He joked to change the mood.
"Wha- I do not!" I laughed in disbelief!
"I'm kidding I'm kidding! You don't bug me. I can't get enough of you when I'm home, you know that!" Chris smiled at me with rosy cheeks.
I kept thinking about what Scott told me earlier... it was true... I'm turning 18 in a couple of weeks. I've only thought about... things.. with him.. a million times. I just... there's so much at stake... Chris he's... incredible... and he's had all of these incredibly beautiful women after him his whole life. And I'm just me.. there's no room for me in that equation with the life he has. I will always ever only be most likely the friend with benefits if anything ever happened. I mean sure he loves me but he definitely doesn't love me like that. He's known me my whole life! Just as I was in deep thought, he spoke again.
"Any ideas for your birthday?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Huh?!" I snapped out of it quickly, confused.
"What do you want for your birthday goofball!" He laughed at me.
