How would a person describe Matt and Connor? Well, for starters Matt and Connor were basically the school's gay it-couple. They were friendly enough to everyone, just very temperamental and easily triggered at some things not to even mention when they decided to be funny. Matt was the sass, the one who was always just about to die after making the wrong person mad, whilst Connor was the one who saved him from getting straight up shanked by other kids, he mostly used the lines, "as if", "I'd like to see you try", "do you know who my mother is", and the most famous, "do it, pussy, you won't".Connor was this tall, thin and pale guy, with charcoal black hair and forest green eyes and Matt was also quite a tall boy with russet skin and muddy brown hair and brown eyes. On the opposite side of the school, they were walking through the west hall, towards the performing arts centre, where they kept things like radios and record players, not to mention stage props and set pieces. There would be a good place to hide, and radio for more help, or they were just going to go listen to broadway tunes. You just never know with kids from Knowell High.
Where I stood, still at the window, the drivers of the police car was dead, broken glass and bullet wounds on his and his partners bodies. People in the room were staring at me and whispering, some were pointing and making other weird little gestures, John and Anna included. Two more cars pulled up, and the four officers were all able to enter the building unharmed. Though soon, I found myself being almost pushed out of the classroom door by people I thought were my friends, then the teacher yelled to everyone, "Move and get out of Simon's way."
Miss came over to me, placing her hand on my shoulder, "This is your decision to make, if you want to, then go. If you don't go, then stay, it's my job to keep the students safe. I know by now, I can't force you to do anything."
I smiled weakly up at her and walked away, John grabbed my arm and yanked me back to the corner dedicated to his and Anna's little schemes, "Simon, I have a plan, but you have to listen okay."
But just as they were about to let me in on the top secret plan, the P.A system crackled in for what felt like the thousandth time, "Deliver him now or I swear to god, I'll kill them all!"
My heart stopped and I looked around the room. The teary, scared faces of my class had become vicious, their self-preservation instinct kicking in. They'd sent me out and lead me to die, like lamb to the slaughter. I tried to sneak out of the classroom, maybe if I went and hid in a broom closet, no one would attempt to sacrifice me. I wasn't even the shortest one, you're supposed to always sacrifice the shortest one first! Anna saw me though and of course tried to stop me. A gun shot echoed though out halls. I darted out of the door and towards the west hall, there hadn't been as much death and destruction coming from the west hall, I think. Maybe Kai or Matt and Connor would be out here, or in the arts centre.
Suddenly, a trio of boys befell my vision, they were leaving one of the rooms. One extremely tall one and two average-tall boys, one with black hair, one with brown hair and the other with dyed-grey hair. It was them. I was certain, so I screamed their names, my voice bouncing off the walls. They all turned to me in terror, but then recognition flashed across their features, they recognised me. I was welcomed with a hug and they pulled me into the closet again.
"Did you forget about the hallway cameras, dumbass?" Kai spoke, and I felt an odd rage bubbling. Malia and Mary died trying to find him, and yet he's here, looking right as rain and not at all sad that his girlfriend of three years essentially just died for him, "he's looking for you."
"We've been compromised, boys, move out. He'll be coming for us any minute now." So we did the smart thing and listened to Connor and left the cupboard.
The P.A System cracked in again, ugh, I swear to god that I'll break that damned old microphone and the entire piece of crap P.A "Can the four boys in the west hall come to principal's office."
As we were passing a little closet just out of one of the hallway camera's view, two thin arms grabbed me and yanked me back, I looked at my assailant to realise it was Anna, "John, go." She hissed, placing a kiss on his cheek and John stepped out the door and took my place as if nothing had happened. I heard him talking to Matt, Connor and Kai as if nothing happened.
"What the fuck, Annie! Why would you do that? Congratulations, you just sent your best friend to his death!"
"I did not! He is not going to die, rather the opposite actually. Remember when we were making all those school shooter jokes? And that day some guy followed me home? Well, you wanna know why? Well guess what mister, holier than thou. John has his dad's revolver and I gave him one of my switchblades."
Well, I had no idea my friends carried weaponry, but also, who the fuck brings a gun to school if you're not gonna shoot it up? How the fuck did John even manage to smuggle it in? Why would a smart girl like Anna ever feel the need to bring not one, but two knives onto school property? Like I mean, other kids had done it too, but they all got busted in less than twenty minutes, maybe she and John were just smart enough to not get caught. "Anna, you're not supposed to have either of those on school property!"
"But it's technically helpful in an unhelpful situation." She replied.
"Doesn't take away the fact that it's, I don't know, illegal." I snapped in reply. I felt hurt that I didn't know about this earlier, that gun could've saved Malia and Mary, along with everyone else that died.
She looked down, as if weighing her options and reflecting on her previous choices, but then she sniffed and wiped her nose, which was a little tell she had been doing since a child when she realised her mistake, before using a childish, sing-song voice, "Ding, dong, your opinion is wrong."
