Prompt// Looking up at the man about to kill me I realized something. I wasn't the hero in this story. I was the villain. And no one would mourn me when I was gone. They would dance and sing on my grave.

I fought for my city, for my people, to protect them all for this....this monster. I would fight to the death for each and everyone of my people, and yet it seemed the only way to beat this guy was to die with him. I throw punch after punch, each one with full force of my super strength. For some reason this guy just keep standing, but I wouldn't give up.

The battle between us raged on and on, and didn't seem like it would be over until one of us was dead. His face held an angry look as we fought, and my eyes held the look of murder. His stupid good looking face was bloody, bruised, and all sweaty. Mine couldn't have looked much better, I would never give up my life knowing he was still living, so I pushed my body to its limits. My body was bleeding and breaking more and more as the fight continued, his seemed to be doing the same.

I wasn't able to block his right hook, and the world began spinning around me. My ears ringing as I tried to see clearly again, and yet before I could another hit slammed me into the ground. My body melted into the ground, it slowly started shutting down, my mind fighting to keep going.

He straddled my chest as he throw punches left and right, screams left his throat as rage consumed him. He was angry that I fought so hard, that I didn't give up my city to him, or maybe it wasn't my city to begin with. Memories of my life began flashing by my eyes, and realization came to me, tears clouded my vision as everything became clear. Looking up at the man about to kill me I realized something. I wasn't the hero in this story. I was the villain. And no one would mourn me when I was gone. They would dance and sing on my grave. Tears ran down my face as I laid there, knowing I was never going to be a hero. The punches stopped, I looked up at his confused face, no matter how bad our fights were, I never cried before.

"I was never the hero, was I?" My voice was raspy and rough, his face soften upon hearing my words, and yet he was still confused. "I always thought I was the hero in this story, but it seems I'm just the evil villain. I'm sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone." My words seemed to hit him hard as his hands fell to his sides.

"You thought you were the hero?" I nodded. "So, all this time that we've been fighting, you were trying to protect the city? The people?" I nodded as I began sobbing, everything just becoming too much for me.

"I'm sorry, I tried to be the hero this time, but it seems I'm always destined to be the villain. I never meant to hurt anyone, I'm sorry if I did. I tried to be good, but I can never be good enough, right? I guess that's just in my genes, once a villain, always the villain." I chuckled and whipped away my tears, but they just continued."I'm sorry for all the pain I caused, I just wanted to help." I explained, I truly was sorry for what I did. My body was almost completely shut down by now, yet my mind continued to fight.

The girl below him looked so broken in that moment, he was speechless at her words. He could see that her words were true, and that she didn't mean to harm anyone. He remembered when they were little, when she was trying to hurt people. She had changed so much since then, she just wanted to be the good one, for once in her life. She just wanted to be good enough for people, she wanted to show everyone that she could be good, and yet no one would listen. So, when she saw what she thought was trouble, she tried to help, but was still seen as the bad one by people.

His heart ached as everything became clear, it was breaking for her. He could see her body giving up, she was dying. And it was him who had caused it. He quickly moved to her side, and pulled her into his arms, knowing these were her last moments. She smiled up at him as her head laid against his chest, hearing his pounding heart.

"Will you tell them that I'm sorry? That I never meant to hurt anyone? That I was trying to be the good one this time?" She asked as she looked up at him, her voice breaking at the thought of the people not knowing the truth. His words had left him, so he nodded in agreement. He just held her close as she told him all about how she tried so hard to be the person everyone wanted, tears filled his eyes at her words.

"You were always good enough. You've always tried to make everyone happy, and tried to be the good guy, but baby, sometimes the people need a villain. And even if you tried to be the hero the people wanted, you'll always be the hero they didn't deserve. They don't deserve to be saved, they deserve to burn in this hellhole of a city, they don't even deserve you as a villain, baby." His voice held strong until the end, where it broke. His heart out in the open now, broken at everything that was happening. Her hand came and took away his tears, before pulling it close to rest her forehead against his in her last moments.

"Promise me, that you'll find someone to love...Someone who loves you just as much as they love you or more... Promise me that you'll find someone who deserves you. Promise me, that when I'm gone, you'll forget me and leave this hellhole and find a real city to protect, one that will give you the love and appreciation that you deserve." Her voice was breathy as she finished speaking. Her eyes wide and looking deep into his as she searched his soul.

"I promise that I'll leave, but I can't find someone to love me, when I've killed the one person who could love me like that....I'll never forget you...I'll love you till my end and forever more." His words were bleeding emotions as she listen intently.

"And I will love you till my end and forever more....But I need you to forget me and be happy..." Her words pained him, but he knew she was right." I'm sorry for this, please know I love you and I'm doing this because I love you." He was confused at her words, but then everything was blank. Using the last of her strength she took away the memories of their love for each other. She took away all the memories of them together as a couple, but left the memories of their child, leaving it so he wouldn't remember her as the mother. Tears fell for her eyes as the closed for the last time, her heart slowing to a stop as she died in the arms of her beloved. She knew the magic would only last for a year or to, but that would hopefully be enough time.

He sat there with her in his arms for a moment, not remembering the love they held for each other once upon a time. He slowly stood with her in his arms, and began walking through the smoke clouded streets, little did anyone know that once the memories came back, he would tell their son how his mother was the greatest hero of all time and how she died to save them all.No one know that his son's grandparents would tell the boy all kinds of story about his parents, they didn't know that when he looked in his son's eyes, he would see his wife's bright eyes staring back at him. Only time would tell how his story ended, but it seemed time had decided that his wife's story was done....for now at least. After all, the hero may always win but the villain never goes down without a fight.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
