The sky was dark, yet filled with the colors of the burning town. We ran, trying to find anyone alive, or even human. The air around us was filled with smoke and the scent of death. My legs burned, they were screaming at me as I dragged my sister through the town, trying to find away to save her from this chaos around us. I could feel her fear, I could feel her shaking as we reached the edge of town. We had made it to the fence, and we were finally going to get out, but in a split second, everything around me came crashing down. The bullet grazed my arm, as it made its home in my sister's chest.

Time seemed to stop as she fell to the ground, her shirt once blue, now stained red and smelled of iron. In that moment, my world was ending and there was nothing I could do to stop it. My vision became blurry as I fell to my knee, holding her to my chest, sobs ripped throughout my body as I sat there rocking back and forth with her. My arms wrapped around her tightly, as if I let go she'd be gone, which probably wasn't far from the truth. I could feel the warm blood against my hands as I tried to stop the bleeding, but it was too late...

"No. No, you don't get to die and leave me in this hell. The fence is right there, we can make it, we'll be safe. I need you to get up, please..." I whispered to her, my voice creaking as my emotions ran wild. My hand was covered in blood as I pushed her hair back, her hair was always in her face, our father never liked it. Her face was pale, tears in her eyes, and yet she seemed unbothered by the hole in her chest. She reached up and covered my hand, pulling it down so she could hold it one more time. We both know it was the end for her and yet I still couldn't accept it.

"It's okay," She whispered out, as if trying not to frighten me."We made to the fence, we made it. Just like you said we would, we made it for mom, we made it for dad, and we made it for those who didn't have a chance. It's my time, we both know it." She spoke in a calm voice, which only made me angry. How could she be calm?! She's dying !!

"No, just no. You and i were supposed to make it out of here, we were supposed to make a new life, somewhere far away." My voice was shaking as I sat there holding my sister for the last time. My heart was ripping itself to pieces, my mind screaming at me to do something, and yet I couldn't think. My eyes couldn't see clearly as the tears kept coming.

"Hey, It's okay, I'll see mom and dad and everyone else. Just promise me, you'll bury me with both middle fingers up, I need to say one last 'fuck you' to the world." She let out a laugh as she finished, which only lead to her coughing up blood as it began to fill her lungs. She was choking on her own blood, and it horrifying to watch, my heart shattering as I watched her last moments...

My screams were earth shattering as the rang out, as she took her finally breath. The sounds of pain, heartbreak, and rage echoed around us. Her body shutting down, finally resting in peace after all this time. My head bowed as silent cries left my body, I looked to the smoke filled sky and screamed. If you listen close enough, you can hear the sound of my heart shattering into a million little pieces... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
