Once upon time there was a family of ducks, Rose (the mother duck), two girls call Amy and Leanne, three boys named Tom, Alex and Ben. Ben was the youngest and the only one who couldn't fly.
It was Monday morning and it was time for school. The ducks took off and flew, apart from Ben.
"Mama?" Ben asked, looking down at the floor sheepishly. "Why can't I fly like the others? Is there something wrong with me?"
"Of course there isn't," Rose replied. "You're just a late bloomer  sweetie; One day you'll fly higher than any one of us, you'll see."
"I hope so mama, I just want to fly to school so the other ducks won't laugh at me anymore."
"Have hope." Rose said with a smile on her face. "Now, hop on my back; you don't want to be late."
Ben hopped on her back and left for school.
When Rose descended with Ben on her back all the ducks in the playground laughed - including his brothers and sisters.
Rose looked at them furiously and called Tom, Alex, Amy and Leanne over. "You all be nice to your little brother today."
"Yes, mama." They answered, while looking down at the ground with smirks on their faces.
Rose waved to her ducklings and flew off.
The first bell of the day rang and it was time for class. Ben wasn't keen about going to school; nor his first class of the day, math. Because, every day he got picked on, and he hated maths.
When Ben got to his class, he stared through the window of the door; everyone was messing around, joking and talking - even his siblings. Ben turned round to go to the bathroom (which he does whenever he get nervous), but waiting behind him was his maths teacher, Mr. Marc.
"C'mon, lad, get in and take your seat."  He said in a strong Scottish voice.
   He walked in behind Ben.
"Right! Everyone take their seats now." He said, sounding Frustrated.
The ducks rushed round the room to find their chairs.
When Ben found his seat, he sat down on a piece of bubble gum. "Yac." Ben said to himself. The duck who was sitting behind him was giggling and so was everyone else. He was trying to get that disgusting pink gum off his bum.
Mr. Marc turned round after writing the five times table on the board. "Quiet!" The teacher yelled. "Ben!? Will you sit down and stop flapping about." The duck sat down uncomfortably.
The bell rang for dinner, the class of ducks jumped out their seats and headed to the door, like a stampede. As soon as Ben stood up, he was pushed by the same duck that put bubble gum on his chair.
When the class was empty, Ben stood up, trying to hold back the tears. He grabbed his backpack and headed to the boys' bathroom, and he sat in one of the cubicles, then ate his tuna sandwich with tears in his eyes.
Ben peered through the crack of the door to see if it was clear. He sat on the door step, he was still tearful from this morning.
He heard this sweet voice; at first he thought it was an angel. "Hey, are you ok?"
Ben looked up, no one has ever cared and asked if he was ok.
"I... I... I'm fine, thanks." He replied nervously.
She pointed to herself, "My name is Daisy, What's yours?"
"It... it... It's Ben." He replied sheepishly. "I haven't seen you here before."
"It's my first day." Daisy said. "I haven't made any friends yet, it's hard as none of them are into the same stuff that I'm into."
"I haven't got any friends neither."
   "How come?" Asked Dasiy.
Ben hesitated, he knew the reason, he just too ashamed to tell her.
"Ben? You can tell me, I won't judge you. You know, at my old school, I was a very unlikable duck."
   "Why?" Ben asked.
"Believe it or not, I wasn't able to take flight like the other ducks."
   "You mean..."
   "Yep, I couldn't fly."
   "How did you cope?"
"I taught myself to fly, and the next day they all respected me."
"Well, I also have a problem with flight." Ben said.
"Meet me after school, I can teach you." Daisy said with a smile on her face."
It brought a smile to Ben's face.
Their next class was English literature; it was a subject that Ben was really good at. But, there was a rule upon the ducks, if you raise your hand when the teacher asked a question, it shows that you think you're smarter than anyone else, and you would get picked on. Ben kept his answers to himself.
The same duck who stuck bubble gum on his chair in chapter two, rolled up a little piece of paper as small as a pea, and put it in his mouth, then put one end of a straw in his mouth and blew the pea shaped piece of paper though the straw and it shot out the other end and it hit Ben in the back of the head.
"Ouch!" Ben cried while rubbing his head.
While he was about to turn round to face him, Mrs. Fisher came in the class and yelled. "QUIET! Ben? Will you sit down."
   "B...b...bu..."
"I said quiet! Or do you want me to write it in front of you?" She said sarcastically.
Mrs. Fisher wasn't a nice teacher, you were not aloud to make any kind of sound unless you was asked a question, you weren't aloud to sneeze, cough or even scratch. Her hearing was sharp like a K-9. She was in her sixties, she had small round glasses resting on the bridge of her bill, a black jumper; which looks like she knitted it  herself, an old brown skirt and a pair of black shoes. She also smelt like an ashtray.
The whole class sat there in complete silence for two very long hours while Mrs. Fisher went on about William Shakespeare.
The bell rang, but unlike the class they had this morning, the ducks had to wait until they were dismissed.
"Class dismiss." Mrs. Fisher said. The ducks slowly walked out of the classroom, if they rushed they'd get after school detention and would have to write the same sentence on the board about one hundred times. This is how strict Mrs. Fisher was.
The duck who been picking on Ben for most of the day, pushed him onto the ground. "Here, you are one step closer to flight." He said sarcastically and laughed.
He felt a tap on his shoulder and he turned round giggling. It was Daisy with half a cup of chocolate milk and she threw it in his face.
"Awww, awww, my eyes." He cried.
The whole school pointed and laughed at him, "Don't be a baby." Dasiy said, and he ran frantically out of school.
Daisy grabbed Ben's arm and pulled him up to his feet. "Are you ok?"
   "I think so." Said Ben.
    "Come with me."
    She took Ben outside.
"You can do this." said Dasiy. "Now, empty your mind and flap your wings."
Ben flapped and flapped, but his feet didn't leave the ground. "I can't do it."
"Yes you can, there's no such word as can't. Let all your fears drop, clear your head and close your eyes." Daisy said.
He tried again and again, but still couldn't. There were fears in the back of his mind that kept him grounded. He kept on thinking about how his brothers and sisters treated him, ducks laughing at him; because he couldn't fly, and how he been picked on.
Then Dasiy reached over and kissed him on the cheek, "You can do this."
All of his anxieties, fears and despairs were lifted, He flapped his wings and he left the ground. He shot up into the sky, like he been flying all his life. "I'm doing it, I'm doing it, look at me." He said joyfully. He flew round the school and the rest of the ducks had their eyes fixed on Ben, he was the talk of the whole school.
Rose arrived at the school, she could see Tom, Alex, Amy and Leanne, but she couldn't see Ben.
"Tom? Where's your brother?" Asked Rose.
Tom pointed up into the sky and Rose looked upwards, she couldn't believe what she saw. "Is that..."
   "Ben." Alex said.
Rose was so happy, that a joyful tear fell from her eye.
Ben was the duck that couldn't fly, and now he's the duck that could.
