stake out (jake peralta)

ONE

the sound of cheering echoed through shaw's bar as captain holt has finished congratulating both you and jake on completing your stakeout mission after a month and finally closing it with one of the biggest busts that either of you had ever done. 

you smiled at jake as the group held their drinks in the air and you and jake both raised your bottles together. after the cheering had settled down you began to walk through the crowd of people so you could catch up with all the detectives that you had missed so dearly while on the stakeout. as you started to walk alongside jake towards your friends, you spotted brad, your boyfriend of two years. you set down your drink on the closest table to you and quickly made your way through the various people in the bar to get to brad. 

'brad!' you smiled as the man you had loved for two years faced you and you found yourself picking up your pace. you ran towards him and threw your arms around his neck, his arms making their way around your waist and he picked you up. after he put you down you hopped up to the tips of your toes and kissed your boyfriend who had been absent in your life for a month due to the mission. 

'i missed you so much' you sighed as you pulled away from him. 

'i missed you too. i can't believe we couldn't see each other for one month, that was like hell' he looked you in the eyes and smiled

you let out a small chuckle and gently grabbed him by the hand. 'come, i'll introduce you to the rest of the squad' you said. brad nodded and unlinked your hands, throwing his arm around your shoulder instead. as the two of you made your way over to rosa and amy, you caught jake's eyes and suddenly felt yourself feeling rather awkward. you knew that jake was not very keen on your boyfriend as they had met just before the stakeout and jake made it extremely clear he did not like brad's presence. 

you threw your bag onto the old floor of the hotel room you were staying in with jake for the next month or so and you sighed as you flopped onto the bed, moving your head to look at jake who was excitedly setting up your equipment.

'how are you so excited to do this? we have to spend a whole month together. i can barely stand you for one shift at the precinct' you joked as you intently watched jake fiddle around with the cameras and equipment in front of himself.

'how can you not be? when we make this bust it's gonna be awesome! i'll be known as the nine nine's best detective!' jake continued to ramble on and you rolled your eyes. you opened your mouth to comment something stupid back but were interrupted when there was a knock on the door of the room. you immediately sat up on the bed and rested your hand on your gun along your waistband as you approached the door. keeping the gun on your hand you cautiously swung the front door open. 

'hey mila!' you let out a sigh and took your hand off your gun as brad's smiling face greeted you at the door.

'brad! what are you doing here?' your face lit up with excitement at the sight of your boyfriend in front of you.

'i just wanted to say a proper goodbye before you started the case, who knows how long it'll take, right?' you smiled at your boyfriend as he said this and pulled him into a hug

'come in, jake's here too you can finally meet him' brad snaked his arm around your waist as you walked into the room together.

'jake, this is brad, i don't think you've met before' you called out to jake who had now moved on from the equipment and was now flipping through some files.

'hi brad' jake replied, not looking up from the files. you sighed at the stubbornness of your work partner and told him to come over. he reluctantly dragged himself over and greeted brad again.
