***********Dawn's POV******

I stared in the face of Sam for what seemed like a millennium, and for the first time, he stared back.

"You see him too right?" He looked at Soff's who looked between me and him and yelping, jumped into the front seat of her civic. The moment we stopped touching he shrieked, "He's gone! Sophia! What's going on?!" This guy was really freaked out.

I slid in through the back door and whispered to Sophia,"Just play it off like you didn't see me, maybe we can convince him he's seeing things."

"It's a little late for that! Oh Goodness, what are we going to do?"

"I have no idea! Try to avoid the conversation!"

She shook her head and he finally got in the car.

"What just happened?" He asked, more collected now then before.

"Umm, I don't know if right now is the most perfect time to explain. But I promise you that when I can I will explain everything."

"Everything, everything?"

"100%"

He nodded taking that as an answer rather well. "Well that worked." She looked at me through the rear view mirror with a look in her eyes that freaked me out a little. "Hey! It's not my fault!"

She turned up the music and mumbled, "Yeah I know, sorry I'm just stressed and confused."

"What?" Sam asked.

"Nothing, just talking to myself."

Again he nodded, and for the first time Sam was a man of few words.

                                                                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a very uncomfortable ride back to Sam's house and an even more uncomfortable dinner. Sam and Sophia sat across each other. She would smile every time she was talked to, but when the questions were answered her gaze would fall into the deep stare of Sam. I walked anxiously around the table looking between them. The suspense was killing me.
"Lindsey, I have to show you the quilt I'm knitting for the lady at church who just had her twins!" Sam's mother told his sister. Noticing the tension Lindsey hopped up and followed her mother out of the room.
"What's up with them two? I haven't seen them this serious since, well, ever!" Sams dad said coming through the wall.
"Ummm! I don't even understand right now!" Everything just exploded in our collected face.
"Son, what's your name?"
"My name is Dawn, Sir." Suddenly feeling like this man earned respect by using the word 'son'.
"Well, I'm John, John Marshall." He shook my hand. "Do you mind explaining everything to me son?"
"Mr. Marshall, your son just found out that Sophia's an Outcast."
"I'm not very up to date, I haven't been for the last two years!" He laughed in a jolly manner. "Can you help me out here?"
As I filled him up to date, Sophia and Sam were having a conversation of their own.
"Sophia, what happened today in the parking lot?"
"Okay, ummm, this is too public, can we go outside?"
Even though technically only them two in the room she wanted more privacy. "Stay,' She said as she left.
"Who are you talking to? I thought you said to leave!"
"You'll find out in a second."
He raised his eye brow and sighed, "Before you explain this, I have a confession to make."
"Me too."
When they were younger they'd always say what was bothering them at the same time on the count of three. It made it  easier to say, "On the count of three," he offered. She nodded.
"One."
"Two."
"Three."
"I'm an Outcast." Our unison lips were left parted as we stared in shock into eachothers eyes.
