CHAPTER THREE

; Red

By the time I walked into the Pokemon Center, I could see the Professor already sitting by one of the tables. Green found a seat close by, waiting by the counter for, I assume, his Pokemon. Three pokeballs sat right in front of him. Since we planned on going to Kalos, I realized they would be our new starter Pokemon.

Great, I thought. We start all over again. I guess there's more than 151 Pokemon out there in the world...

I internally smacked myself then. Who am I kidding? Was I dumb? Of course there were. I just never expected it.

"Hello Professor, hello Green." I waved, but weariness settled in my voice. They both nodded in acknowledgment, but Green seemed more distant. He looked like he had been thinking about our talk earlier.

When he realized it was me who spoke, he glared at me. Green joined us by the table with his Pokemon soon after that, and we started to discuss our future stay at Kalos.

We all turned to Oak to explain this mess. "I know, you're wondering how you both got into this," the man's voice shot directly towards Green. "But I was just wondering that if you two travelled together, you might learn from one another."

That statement seemed to have a bonus effect on Green, since he flinched, then stared at his grandfather. "Learn? From Red?" his eyes moved from his grandfather to me, then back again. "I learned my lesson a while ago. Why from him, again?" I didn't understand why Green sounded so caught up in this, even though I understood what he stated in his questions.

"He has... uh, more potential than you in Pokemon. You can help each other on that," the Professor made his sentences sound like questions, as he pondered, confused, on why we both seemed so worked up.

"Professor, what are we going to do in Kalos anyway?" I decided to ask. I didn't want Green and the Professor to have any other argument over something so simple.

"To start, you will be staying in Kalos to study Pokemon breeding. Then-"

"Wait, what? That's Gold's job, why are we doing that?" interrupted Green. He seemed eager on demanding words out of his grandfather. When can that boy keep his mouth shut?

Green, reading my facial expression, slumped, and then explained, "I mean, he is the 'Breeder,' right?"

"Well, Gold is busy doing another.. project, plus you guys seem free to do this thing." There came another really awkward silence, as we waited for the Professor to continue. "You can use the move Fly over to route seven, then you both can ride your bikes to the daycare in the nearby west.. There are some berry fields to the south, where you can observe some Kalos Pokemon and maybe catch a few of them."

Green raised his eyebrows, clearly unamused. "What is in it for me? I can study some Pokemon, as a future researcher, but other than that there is nothing that would possibly--"

"There is also a Battle Chateau somewhere along that Route that you would probably like," the Professor answered, cutting in. His eyes told us that there was more adventures awaiting us in Kalos.

"Okay, fine," Green said, turning oblivious. "But, I'm not going there unless i bring some of my own Pokemon. I am not going with just a starter Pokemon. Plus, I need to fly there right?"

"Did I did I say you had to go with just a starter Pokemon?" The Professor inquired. "Speaking of Pokemon, you can choose one now. Oh! And here are your new pokedexes."

Still sitting in front of us were Froakie, Fennekin, and Chespin. The screens above the Pokemon showed their exact abilities and moves. Immediately, Green snatched Froakie's pokeball. I threw him a confused look like, why the rush, and weighed my options.

The two Pokemon left were chasing each other. Each time they collided, Chespin always crouched down and attacked Fennekin with its sharp spikes, sending the fire type Pokemon sprawling. I smiled at the sight. "I choose Chespin. You ready, buddy?" It nodded, then ran across me until it rested at my shoulder. My Pikachu didn't seem very happy to have another Pokemon on me, but they both had the same amount of excitement for an adventure.

"Okay, you are all set, tomorrow I would expect you to be at the docks by dawn." Oak's voice echoed behind his shoulder as he walked away, leaving Green and I alone.

After a moment of awkward silence, and a very intense glaring competition, Green spoke up, "I'm going. You wouldn't have anything intelligent to say about this anyways." He waved as he turned towards the direction his grandfather had gone to.

As soon as he was gone, I tapped my new Chespin with a poke ball, returning it for rest. I went to go home and pack. Well, I'll meet up with him later I guess...

My mother was there waiting for me. She had a fierce look in her eyes that made me want to apologize. I opened my mouth as if to speak, but the wide smile that crossed her face was enough for me to shut up again.

"Oh Red!" my mother embraced me with a very tight hug that made my throat scream: Help me! "You're finally growing up!" You do remember I'm sixteen years old, the former Champion of my region, and the fact I caught all the Pokemon in Kanto, right? She certainly didn't act like she knew all that useful information. Then she squeezed harder, and I could've sworn my face turned crimson. When she finally let go, I took a few breaths. I looked back up at my mother's beaming eyes.

"Yeah, love you too," I said, my throat still raspy from the hug. I sounded like a dying whale or something, but thankfully my mother didn't care. "But don't worry, I'll make you proud."

Those were the same words that left my mouth when I was a child, ten years old and ready to become Champion. I smiled at the memories of the last six years.

I ran in the house to pack up my baggage. I didn't forget anything. Like my health first aid things, pokeballs, pokedex, town map, transciever... Oh right! My toothbrush! My mother was strict as heck when it came off to going on a long journey, so I absolutely cannot forget my beloved toothbrush. Once I was done packing everything possible for the trip, I knew one thing.

Tomorrow starts my new memories.
