"No mom ill be fine." I shook my head laughing at the fact that my mother still thinks that I need help with moving into my own apartment! I'm a grown man for crying out loud.

"Are you sure Israel? I'm just worried about you...it's only been three weeks since Julie-"

"Come on ma I'm fine, cross my heart." I say literally doing the motion over my chest even though she can't see me. I'm a writer give me a break.

"Okay I'll let you get back to it, good luck on your first day kiddo." Physical eye roll, kiddo, "goodnight, I love you..."

"I love you to ma." I chuckled holding back the grin on my face. She hung up. I turned to find my roommate and best friend standing behind me, his laughter echoed through our still empty apartment, "shut the fuck up." I sighed running my hands through my newly trimmed hair, purposely bumping into Nick's shoulder and going into the kitchen to grab a beer.

Nick follows, "awwww I love you so much mommy." He says mimicking a baby's voice. He laughs even more as I open the fridge and give him a death glare while cracking open the beer bottle with my bare hand, I quickly take a sip, "what's the big deal." He shrugs

I take a long sip and swallow the bitter drink down my throat, "oh yeah, not a big deal at all, it's my fricken first day of teaching, you know how much I've risked for this career." I sighed. Nick nods to the fridge signaling to give him a drink. I do so and open it for him, "I mean what if it goes horrible? Then what? I mean come on." I said walking towards the couch, Nick plops down beside me, "what if it's all for nothing?"

Silence filled the room.

"Listen, career day, what'd you wanna be a teacher or a doctor?" Nick asked

"Teacher."

"High school job experience, teach or a doc?" He asked

"Teach."

"Graduation, what'd you say you were gonna go back to our high school, Chassman High and be? Come on, I wanna heaaar it." He sang, "a damn teacher or a damn doctor?"

"A damn teacher ." I chuckled shaking my head

"There." He smirked standing and clinking his glass against mine, "it's settled you're a teacher." He slipped off to his room and didn't come out for the whole night. Probably because he was FaceTiming his girlfriend. I stood up and walked out to our balcony overrun looking Houston Texas and it's bright lights. I smiled taking a sip of of my beer.

"I'm a damn teacher." I smiled leaning my elbows against the balcony.
