Chapter 3: To Keep a Secret

"Lillian! I'm home!" My mom called from the front door. I could hear the jingling clank as she set her keys on the counter.

"Zeena, should I tell my parents about you? It's not like I can just sneak out of the house all the time to train and stuff." I told my kwami, bookmarking my book.

"Why don't you wait a little while before telling them? I mean it's not like it's supper important. You just have to be prepared for them to think this is a bad idea. Just be sure to ask them to get more peppers. I'm dyin' of hunger here!" 

     I don't understand this kwami one bit.

I rolled my eyes and placed my book on the nightstand next to my bed. "If I don't tell them now, they're going to wonder why I didn't tell them sooner. I have to tell them now, or not at all. I just need to know which one!" Sighing I turned to Zeena for help, but she had fallen asleep on my blanket. What a lazy cat.

"Lillian? Are you here?" My mother asked. Coming down the hall parallel to my room. I hid Zeena near my feet out of sight.

"I'm right here mom!" I called. "I was just reading. How was your day?"

"It was good. Work was, work." She sighed and sat on the end of my bed. "Is your father home yet?"

"No, he texted me and asked for the grocery list, so I think he's at the store." I replied, sitting up in bed. The silence was very uncomfortable.

"Anyone home?" My dad joked, knocking on the frame of my door.

"Wow, perfect timing! We were just talking about you." This was my chance. I'm going to tell them! "Mom, dad?" I began. "Can I tell or, show you something?"

"Of course Sweetie. What's wrong?" My mom asked. Her face was worried and she placed a hand on my foot. Only, it wasn't my foot, it was Zeena.

"Hey! Careful kid! I might be thousands of years old and sort of immortal, but... H-hey there Mr. and Mrs. Brown. Nice to meet you..." She trailed on.

That's one way to tell them! "This, actually is what I was talking about. Mom, dad, meet Zeena. My kwami."

I know this chapter is pretty short, I just wanted to get it out. It was bothering me that there was just an unpublished chapter sitting there. So, enjoy this tid bit!
