"Ok, it's 12:30.  That gives me ten mi-" Waverly Earp's ramblings are cut short as the doors to Shorty's open with a quiet thunk.  A tall shadowy figure walks toward the bar, a large white hat covering their face.  Waverly's fingers work quickly, preparing for the day ahead, as she says, barely looking up, "Ah, excuse me, but we don't open for another ten minutes.  If you want to come bac-" Waverly's words catch in her mouth as the stranger looks up from under their hat, revealing a tall, elegant woman.  Her long red hair is braided down her back in a single braid, and when her eyes meet Waverly's, her heart literally stops.  The woman reaches out her hand warmly to a frozen Waverly with smile she was sure could kill.

"Haught."   Says the woman.

"Wha-?"

"Officer Nicole Haught."  Waverly takes the woman's- Nicole's- hand and shakes it lightly.

"I'm Waverly."  She offers quietly, too stunned to do much else.  Nicole releases her hand and sits on the bar stool directly in front of her, taking off her white sheriffs hat.  Waverly can feel the officer's eyes taking in her features, as hers are too.  The attraction is obvious.  There's no denying it.

"Anyway," Nicole says with a smile, "I'm here for a coffee.  Double shot latte please."

"Um.  Like I said, were not really open yet."  Nicole looks at her sadly.  Waverly sighs.  "I can make a raincheck for coffee later, when I get off work."  That seems to satisfy her.

"The only thing is," Nicole says with a cheeky grin, "When I see something I want, I don't want to wait."  The bluntness in the other woman's voice makes Waverly feel things she hasn't for a long, long time.

Waverly doesn't realize that she's still fiddling with the beer tap until it starts squirting all over her, drenching her shirt.  She steps back, her mouth a small O, feeling her shirt become see-through.  She'll have to change it because people are going to start coming in soon, but she doesn't want to leave Nicole waiting.

"Ahh...  sorry.  I need to fix these damn taps."  Waverly says blushing, feeling the other woman's eyes on her.

"I didn't know Shorty's had wet T-shirt competitions."   Nicole says.  Waverly glares at her slightly, blushing an even deeper shade of red and mimes covering her eyes.  The redhead complies and Waverly reaches under the bar to get a spare shirt.

Waverly's beer-soaked shirt is almost over her head when it somehow gets tangled in her hair.  She struggles but to no affect.

"Uhh, Nicole?"  Waverly hears the other woman turn around.  "A little help here?"

Nicole ducks under the bar and goes over toward Waverly.

"You sure do have yourself stuck now, don't you, baby?"  The redhead traces her finger gently up Waverly's side, electricity in her touch, before untangling her shirt so Waverly could pull it over her head.  Waverly turns, holding her white shirt protectively over her chest, and meets Nicole's eyes.  She didn't think it was possible to blush as deep as she did.

"So..." Nicole continues, smiling sheepishly.  "About that coffee."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The soft smells of coffee and pumpkin spiced lattes waft up Nicole's nose as she sits at the table waiting for that gorgeous Waverly Earp.  Her leg jiggles impatiently making the whole table shake annoyingly.  A waiter comes over the her table after a few minutes.

"What would you like, Ma'm?"  He asks professionally.  Nicole wonders sadly if she's been turned down on the date she was so looking forward too.

"I'm waiting for someone, but thanks."  He nods, dark curls bouncing.

"I'll be back in a bit then."  He says, and walks off back behind the counter.  Nicole takes this time to take in her surrounding for the hundredth time.  It's a warm, homely cafe with chalkboard walls covered in drawings.  Most of them are down the bottom, seeing that there's chalk there for kids to draw with.  Along the other wall sit low lying bookshelves full of magazines and an assortment of other random classics.  The baristas are all working full speed.  It's the afternoon rush.

Nicole's head snaps around as she hears the bell on the door jingle, but it's just an old lady.  Nicole turns away, disappointed, when the small, bubbly figure of Waverly Earp catches the door before it closes.

Nicole beams at her, and her smile is equally returned by a nervous but obviously very excited Waverly.  She practically falls into her seat in front of Nicole.

"Hey, Waves."  Nicole says fondly.  Waverly looks up at her with her gorgeous brown eyes.

"Hey Nicole.  Sorry I'm late!  Gus had me stay for an extra fifteen minutes.  We were so busy!" She lets out a flustered breath.  "It's those same people down from Canada every year.  Like what it is, the 'Migration of the Canadians?'" Nicole smiles, but inside alarm bells are ringing.  Canada is home to some very interesting... things. "Anyway, let's order! I'm starving!" Nicole hastily agrees and hails down the curly haired waiter again.   They talk about their lives and families, Waverly raving on about Wynonna, Nicole complaining about her hippie parents, until their coffees arrive.

Waverly, ironically, orders a pumpkin spiced latte, where Nicole sticks with her classic double shot.

They both sit at their small, round table, sipping their drinks and stealing glances at each other until Waverly speaks up. "So, Haught."  She clips the end of Nicole's name in a way that makes her shiver.  She puts down her drink and puts both hands flat on the table in front of her, either side of her steaming mug.  With an investigate look, she asks formally,  "How are you liking Purgatory?" But then she scrunches up her nose and giggles,  breaking her professional screen.

"It's honestly not as bad as I thought it would be.  I was expecting a terrible, demon-run western town, but hey.  It's not half bad."  Waverly's eyes go wide.

"You know about the demons?" She whispers, looking around suspiciously.

"I know a lot more than you would expect, Babygirl."
