It'd been a week since we got a call in the middle of the night, bringing Kaid's world to a sideswipe. As soon as he found out that Stace was dead he yelled at me to get out of his room.
His blood curdled cries and creative curses still heard through his door after I left.
I tried and tried to get in the room to console him but he had the door locked and even though I didn't know Stace for as long as Kaid did, I cried too.
Today was his funeral, today was the first day Kaid would be coming out of his room since he heard, and today was the first day I would see his face again.
"Baby?" I whispered, knocking softly on his door.
Before I knew it the door was creaking open, Kaid stepped out of the room in a classic black and white suit, the tie clutched in his soft brown hands which shook with sorrow.
"Can you do this fa' me?" He quietly requested, his eyes darting from place to place.
"Of course" I mumbled giving him a small smile. As I began to tie his tie, Kaid looked around for a bit, biting hard on his lip as if he was trying not to release the emotion that begged to break way.
My guess is it didn't work because small drops of tears were landing on his smooth cheeks, his red eyes glued to the ceiling. I took an opportunity to embrace him, wrapping my arms around him careful not to wrinkle the black dress that covered my bare skin.
"It's okay baby it's okay" I consoled over and over refraining from crying myself.
He rested his cheek on top of my straightened hair, wrapping his arms around me as well. "This shit ain't fair" I heard him sniffle.
"I know, I know" I whispered, rubbing small circles on his back.
"He ain't never did shit to nobody" He cried holding me tighter.
I bit hard on my own lip containing the emotion that took over me. It was true, Stace was a good kid and anybody on the streets could tell you that.
"Come on we have to go" I tried to encourage, lifting Kaid's head with my hands.
He had snot and tears running down his face which I didn't hesitate to wipe up with a napkin.
"We have to go" I mumbled landing my lips on his only for a quick second.
It took a while, but eventually he nodded, kissing my lips with passion before softly grabbing his car keys from out of my hands. Kasai and Katari were already in the car in little poofy black dresses holding soft pouts on their faces.
They knew where they were going and understood fully what was going on.
The drive there was silent and a tense air filled the car, getting to the church wasn't any better since all of his relatives were crying and screaming.
His body lay in a closed casket, too much damage had been done to his head and a picture of his bright smile hang over it.
"You can do this Shaun come on" I spoke to Kaid since he stopped right at the churches entrance.
He took a deep breath, fixing his tie before taking my hand in his, squeezing it softly and leading the way into one of the seats in the very back.
