Ivy stared at Alex as he slept on her bed. He looked younger and approachable in his sleep. Very different from the version she had been subjected to during the day. It's like the cranky but easy-going Alex she knew was a cover. A public face for the pack.

The newest version of Alex made her nervous. His emotions were all over the place. His mood, unpredictable.

One minute he was behaving like he wanted her and she was his soulmate. The next minute, he was acting up like he wished she was not in his life. Another time he was loving and caring. Next, he was jumping her like some call girl.

Alex was stressing her out. She's lost on how best to handle his confusing outlets.

Ivy wished there was a dummies book on "how to handle your powerful young, handsome beta mate for dummies." She wouldn't mind spending her next income on it. Even though it was really small, and she saved as much as she could spare for when she had to leave. Still, it would be a good investment. Provided it gave her the stable Alex, she knew and loved for years.

Except!

Except, the Alex she fell in love with was a fraud and this, this closeup Alex was the real deal.

She was truly confused and angry.

Angry at the way he had maneuvered the situation to his advantage. Using the one thing, the only thing they had in common against her.

Desire.

Body tingling desire. Arousal that made her forget her trail of thought and made him her center of existence in the blink of an eye. Her body and her thoughts are focused solely on him when he touched her. He knew it and used it without hesitation to get his way.

How could he stoop so low?

She could smack his head for the stunt he pulled.

Just wishful thinking. But the thought gave her a little satisfaction, which brought a smile to her face.

She exhaled deeply, her anger subsided as fast as it came. Ivy sighed again as she continues to watch him sleep.

Who could stay angry at that face? Not her. She couldn't stay angry at anyone for long. Definitely not at Alex.

Alex, her greatest weakness, her mate, her heart, her love. And he wanted her. He wanted her In the same measure men wanted women for centuries. The same way werewolves wanted their mate from the beginning of moonlight hunting. She'd almost cried herself to death for nothing. Contrary to what she thought, He genuinely wanted her!

Great pleasure washed through her as she remembered the ways he had vigorously showed her how much.

Alex turned on the bed to change his sleeping position. He rolled on her tiny bed trying to get comfortable.

That would never happen.

Getting comfortable on that bed was close to impossible, especially not with his large frame. He looked tired and worn out. The dark circles under his eyes are clear indications of his tiredness. Little wonder he had dozed off on her bed almost immediately he got into it. He had slept off as he waited for her to finish packing.

Ivy gimmicks. Guilt pricked her mind.

She could have packed all her things in less than twenty minutes. But she had angrily on shaky legs taken her sweet time. Her tiny way of rebelling. It's a nonexisting triumph, but a victory all the same.

Little payment for the way he had manipulated her into leaving her home of ten years. What Tessie had failed to accomplish in over five years, Alex did in two minutes. She deserved an upper hand with him, even if it means she was postponing the inevitable.
