"Just stay here, I'll be fine on my own."
I walked down the ramp and out towards the cliff. Taking in the rain, listening to the small crashes from the beach. All was peaceful; All was calm. Then, like so many times before the noise went away, the connection had been formed.
I turned around, looking at the man I thought I hated. But when he turned around towards me, I couldn't hate him. Something told me that he was not the same man I had fought that snowy night. "Why is the Force connecting us like this?" His voice wasn't deep and robotic as it normally was due to his helmet. His hair framed his face in a beautifully haunting way that made me was to submit to him. I focused on the scar that ran from just below the corner of his eye all the way down his cheek and neck; keeping my eyes glued on it.
Slowly approaching him; cautious like going up to a scared dog. Gently, I reached up and just barely placed my thumb on the wound. His skin jumped away from mine. My hand recoiled, but I tried once more. This time, he didn't run away from me. No, this time he leaned into my small touch. Running down the scar, I watched his face relax.
Like this, we stayed for what seemed like forever. Until the bond broke, and we both returned to our worlds. The water's edge pulled me closer, begging me to jump in and save the man. I looked down into the abyss that the water offered, the calming darkness calling to me.
Looking up, towards whatever afterlife there is I gave an old man my promise.
