WARNING: Blood, gore and death ahead. Proceed with caution.

There was utter mayhem and pandemonium everywhere.

The cacophony of gunshots, metal clashing against one another and the loud bangs of the cannons were the only discernible thing amidst the dark fog of pitch black blanketing the entire place. Humanity had fallen.

They were taking over.

The two bruised and battered blonde haired children held onto one another and sobbed, hiding in a sheltered corner, behind the rubble of ta broken wall. They had been alright moments ago when they were escaping with their mother to the other side of the country with hundreds of other people, where the war had already ended, albeit in the form of defeat of the human race. But the chaos had already ceased in that place. They would survive there.

With a jarring loud sound, the entire area had been coveted in thick black fog. The docks had been attacked. They were so close to freedom, the ships that would take them away to a less furore place. But it had been ripped away in an instant, as the impact of the smoke bombs knocked them all out.

When one of the four years old gained consciousness, she was only greeted with the sight of her sobbing twin sister. Her parents were nowhere to be found in the darkness. " Emma, mommy?" The little girl asked worriedly, in her baby voice. The girl in question only sniffled. "I don't know! Mommy!!" She sobbed loudly.

Petrified and scared, they did not notice the flare of a fireball that was headed in their direction, precisely at one of the girls. "Evelyn, look out!" a distant voice called out to them. Before any of them had the time to react, their mother jumped in and took the hit herself, getting badly burnt in the process.

Flames engulfed her and she ended up being thrown a few feet away from the impact, badly injured.

"Mother!" they both rushed to her, only to gasp in horror at her grave condition. Half of her face was badly burnt, the smell of putrid and putrescent flesh in the air was grisly and ghastly.

Their mother coughed up blood as she clutched onto the gaping burnt wound on her chest before uttering her final words,

" Evelyn and Emma go! Survive for me!" With a loud gasp her breath hitched before coming to a halt, dark eyes glazing over the light faded away from them.

"Mother! Wake up mother!" Amidst the tumult, the two children cried loudly, cowering and clinging onto one another before they were spotted by lone woman.

"My my what are you two doing here children? It's not safe here, come along!" The kind and concerned brown eyes of the stranger woman was the only thing Evelyn remembered as she passed out. The woman hoisted them up and sneaked into the one of the ships that was about to leave, determined to save them.

The chaos died down slowly marking the defeat and slaughter of the human race.

As the fog cleared out, the corpses of humans covering the grounds became visible, the bodies charred from flames and perforated with bullets. The once pristine grey docks were a mess of scarlet now, blood staining the grounds. Detached human appendages were scattered throughout the grounds.

The dark haired humanoid creature that was in-charge of the assault stepped into view, with his army behind him. The man was stunning and statuesque with his dark hair and amber eyes. He looked ethereal, all of them were.

Looking at them, no one could have guessed they were another race altogether, from another planet. Their features resembled humans completely, albeit possessing their other worldly cold beauty.

But when the man moved an upturned tank out of the way with a mere shove, it was clear they were not human.

" Looks like some of those humans were able to flee in the ships." One of his men informed him. The colonel hummed indifferently.

"It doesn't matter. We have already taken over this area. There's nothing here anymore. Let us go" He commanded his army back as they marched back into their battle ships.

They had finally succeeded. They had taken over the entire world.

A/N: ( The picture above does not belong to me)

This is going to be pretty dark and twisted. Not for the faint hearted. It will be much, much darker than my other story "Fixation" (if you've read it)

This chapter was just to provide a little background about the semi- dystopian era in which this story is going to take place. From the next chapter, it will directly follow our protagonist's story-line.
