When she reached home that day, she was unable to find Emma anywhere. A part of Emma's rather luxurious collection of shoes was still in the shoe rack so she assumed Emma had gone out to smoke with her friends again. Evelyn stepped inside the dark alley, scrunching her nose up at the smog and stench of sweat mixed with things she did not particularly care to know about. She heard Emma's laughter and followed the voice.

"Hey, look who is here, Mrs Grundy!" A man in his early twenties with an ugly scar running down the side of his face snickered at her and they all followed suit. "Come to join us?"

"Emma, let's go" She said pulling up an intoxicated Emma by the arm. "I don't want to "Emma's speech was slurred and she almost toppled off as she tried to remove her hand from Evelyn's grasp.

"You heard her. Get lost." The man sneered at her as he stepped in front of Emma. Evelyn met his gaze coolly.

"Emma is my charge. I don't need permission from tearaways to care for my sister." The man raised an eyebrow and she stepped back, the disgust visible on her face as he swayed slightly on his feet in his drunken stupor, almost knocking into her. "Tear-what?"

She ignored him without effort. "Emma let's go."

"No wonder she has never had a partner. She's so nagging and matronly" A girl with a bright pink Mohawk and an eye patch covering missing eye said and they all snickered at her. Evelyn ignored them with a calmness only blessed onto her and they seemed rather put out by their failed attempts at getting a rise out of her.
"Damn you are cold"

"Emma" Evelyn said exasperated but there was a warning in her voice. Emma sulked and finally let Evelyn drag her out of there.

Evelyn left the room after tucking Emma in bed. She retired to her own chambers and let the barriers of her mind fall slightly, rummaging through the events of the day in her mind. The day was rather uneventful. Emma was still upset over her recent breakup. She wished Emma could just find a single genuine and responsible person to settle down with and break free from the viscous cycle she had been sucked into. A thought occurred to her mind as she reflected back on the words of Emma's friend.

Evelyn's life was lacking in a lot of aspects but the one thing she had completely cut out of her life was romance. Whereas she wished Emma would settle down, she did not have any such plans for herself. For some reason the concept of romance had always evaded her. She did not recall having a single crushes or romantic interest throughout her life. Her life was disciplined. It revolved around working hard, earning money, protection Emma and formerly Maya and surviving.

As she thought harder about any possible romantic interests she might have had in the past she felt the onset of a migraine at the base of her head. She had been very prone to these migraines ever since her accident, as far as she could remember. Evelyn shook her head, shutting the tight lid over her fatuous thoughts and drifted off to sleep.

A chill ran down Evelyn's spine abruptly, seemingly awakening her.

"Not this again" She thought she tried to move her arms in vain.

It seemed like she was only present mentally.

It was happening again.

She stared apprehensively at her own body surrounded by the flowing bed curtains , not entirely oblivious to what was happening. She tried to reach out but she knew it would be futile. It was like she was watching a movie play out in front of her eyes. She felt as if she were an insect, locked away in a glass container as she stared helplessly at her own form lying on the four poster bed.

The moonlights dimmed considerably in the same unknown room she had witnessed before. She gasped as she took in the silhouette of a man slithering through the shadows. She could not see his face, only his outline. The man walked along the bed slowly, the blue light casting an ethereal glow all around. She saw a pale hand reaching out to grab one end of the curtain before the curtains were pulled back slowly, to reveal her form to his eyes and his face to her.
