It's the end of the second quarter and halftime is going to start. I grimace as I look at the scoreboard. We are losing pretty badly. Cheerleaders do their performance as I take a seat on the bench next to Patrick, the quarterback. "Dude these people are really counting on us for the first game!" he says. I roll my eyes and scoff. Like I didn't already know that. Patrick is a senior in high school and me being a junior, I kinda look up to him as a hero. "A lot of those cheer girls are staring at you, Vin". I shift in my seat wincing a little from the pain of the tackle that I just endured. The cheerleaders final their performance and I give a couple of them a wave. "Yeah they're nice, but I'm not really on the lookout, I have to focus on school work or I'm off the team," I tell him.
I look back up to the crowd and spot 'the scientist' Valerie Kingston. I watch as she keeps looking down at her book. Who reads at a football game? I'll never understand this girl, I think rolling my eyes. Then she makes eye contact with me. In my head, I just heard crickets from how awkward it was. She starts talking to her friend and the marching band is finishing their slightly interesting performance. "Science geek eh?" Patrick says, "You should ask her out". My head hurt so much from my eyes bugging out of my head, "Hell no man, she a weirdo, we would have to be the last two people on the planet." "Yikes! That bad? what if we make it interesting?" he asks. I turn to him in confusion but almost scared to ask what he is talking about. "We'll discuss business after the game!" he shouts heading back in for the third quarter.

I watch as everyone who was excited about the game got up and left in disappointment. We really let everyone down. "Relax kid, it's no big deal, they'll forget about it on Monday". I turn to Pat whose behind me on the bench taking off his knee pads and helmet. "I just feel responsible for getting their hopes up". He quickly shakes his head, "Nah man, it's not your fault". He pats the seat next to him, "Sit kid and let's discuss business". I reluctantly sit down, because I know this will have something to do with what we were talking about earlier. "Now, that science girl we were talking about earlier, what if we play a little game?". I stand up quickly in protest. "No man, that rude to take advantage of her besides if I tried anything her friend would probably cut my-", he puts his hand up to stop me from talking.
"Chill man, it's not taking advantage of her, I'm asking you make-out with her," he says standing up from the bench putting his arm around my shoulder. "I just want some entertainment for my last year of school", we start walking off the field, "Think about you make her fall for you which wouldn't be too hard, then before things she gets comfortable, BAM! you break up with her". Nope, no, hell no, damn I never knew Pat could be such an ass, I thought. "Pat I don't know how I feel about this". He quickly stopped me, "Keeping thinking about it, you'll be the center of attention and girls would be all over you". As we were walking we bumped into the people in front of us as there were people who stopped to look at Valerie and her friend on her knees in front of her. They eventually leave, "What about now Vin, you down for it", he says holding a hand out. "Y-yeah, I'll do it", I shake his hand in agreement while rubbing the back of my neck with my other hand. We walk away, with me wishing this day would be over and him with a satisfied look on his face. Great, can't wait for Valerie and her friends to want to castrate me after this.
