Friday Night, also known as the best night of the week. I didn't have any plans but I had to get up early tomorrow for the next football game. I just couldn't stop thinking about what Valerie said. After all, she did ignore me the rest of the week. There I was sitting on my bed listening to music when my mom shouts for me to come downstairs. "Vinny boy! Come downstairs, little Pattycake is here to see you", I roll my eyes at the childish nickname my mom gave me, but then become confused as to who 'Pattycake' is. "Mom your cousin Patricia is 50 something year's old, stop calling her-", I say walking down the stairs before I stop abruptly seeing who it is. "Oh, Patrick you're the little 'Pattycake'". He visibly looked embarrassed as his face turned a red as a tomato, "Yeah Vinny boy," he said in a mocking tone, "I came to discuss somethings mind if I come in." My mom finally left the room to return to the couch where she was watching Say Yes to the Dress. Patrick and I went upstairs to my room where he threw his bag on the bed and grabbed my computer chair to face me and began talking about our little 'game'.
"So kid, let's discuss this Valerie thing", he looks at me with a sly smile on his face, "So, anything new to report? Any new points you scored?" I'm debating whether I should tell him I want to back out or not. I know that of Valeri finds out the truth she'll hate me more than she already does. "Look, Pat, I don't know how much more of this i'll be able to handle. She's such a nice girl and I wouldn't want to hurt-". He stops looking around my room and stares at me blankly. Crap, now I'm definitely screwed, I shouldn't have said anything. "Chillax Vin, the game just started all you have to do is make a few extra points and then go for the tackle", I stare at him in confusion, "And by tackle I mean break up with her". I slowly nod. This won't be that bad I just gotta get to know her then ask her to Prom then I'll let her down easy. Patrick says something that shakes me out of my thoughts but I could quite hear because I completely zoned out. "Right, Vin?", he asks. "Huh? Oh yeah right, hey can ask you a question? I don't know why this took a while to come to me but why are are you targeting Valerie?", he looks at me with a solemn expression, "Was she just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Or do you have something against her?". He genuinely looked like he was about to answer before my mom shouted up the stairs, "Patrick are you staying over for dinner tonight!?" He shouted back saying he'll stay over. Then he looked back at me like he had something up his sleeve.
We both go downstairs to the kitchen when my mom starts pestering Patrick with questions about, how his life is or what he wants to do when he graduates. "I'm doing well, Mrs. R", then he glances at with through the corner of his eye and smirks, "I might go into professional football, but I don't want to leave my girlfriend all the time if go away to every state for a game". My mom always asks about people's future careers. Then again I guess most mom's do, they ask about someone's future then if it's not good enough in their eyes they complain about it to their friends or the family. My mom actually looked interested though. "I'm kind of going to miss school and all the fun dances, like prom", he then looks at me, "You know Junior Prom is coming up? Are you going to ask your girlfriend Vin?" he said it so fast yet somehow everything seemed to be happening in slow motion. I couldn't hear anything over the sound of my heart beating in my ears. I'm definitely screwed.
