We get to the hospital by just gone seven, we are the first there as we make our way to the waiting room. Sitting next to Nathan, I rest my head on Nathan’s solder as his arm rests around my solder. Every time my eyes close shut, I force them open, I don’t want to sleep just in case we’re aloud to visit Jay.
“It’s alright, Lacey, you can go asleep, I’ll wake you up if we’re aloud to see Jay…” It’s like he can read my mind. I nod helplessly, letting my eyes finally shut.
Nathan’s P.O.V
Siva, Nareesha, Tom, Kelsey and Max come and go throughout the whole morning as I stay to comfort Lacey, despite her being fast asleep. Max walks into the waiting room round about lunchtime with two portions of chips, he hands me some and starts eating his own.
“Wow, did she not sleep last night?” Max asks looking at Lacey. I stare down to her delicate, soft face rest on my arm, as I take her hair out of her eyes, which had dark purple rings around them. Yet she still looked beautiful.
“Yeah she had about 20 minutes or so…” I mumble looking down at her, I look up to Max who gives me a confused look, eating his chips. I begin to tuck into mine.
“How do you know?” He asks curiously.
“She slept round mine last night…” I tell him.
“Be careful with what you’re doing Nathan.” Max says staring me dead in the eyes.
“What do you mean?” I ask.
“I just mean she’s very vulnerable at the moment, and she’s not thinking straight… What I’m trying to say is don’t hurt her…”
“I’d never hurt her in a million years, Max!” I say quite offended to think that’s what he thinks I’m doing.
“I can tell you like her, Nathan, I’m not stupid…” He says calmly as I huff.
“She’s just a friend…” I mumble.
“Yeah, if I was you I wouldn’t get your feeling mixed up, she loves Jay remember.” It’s strange to think those last four words could hurt me ‘she loves Jay remember.’ Max is right I shouldn’t get my feelings in the way. I didn’t really notice my feelings until last night, but I’m trying to hide them as best as I can and protect her when Jay’s not here.
Lacey’s P.O.V
I wake up next to Nathan who’s eating chips with Max in silence. I take my head from Nathan’s solder and rest it on the wall.
“Can I have a chip?” I ask as I take one from Nathan. Suddenly the same bitch of a nurse appears into the waiting room as Nareesha walks in.
“You can now see James, he’s still in his coma though.” She says. I smile just at the fact I can see him and giggle at how she called him James.
“I just got a text from Siva, him, Kelsey and Tom are on their way now! I’ll tell them they can go see Jay.” She says tapping at her iphone. We all walk into Jay’s hospital room to see him lie there peacefully on the hospital bed. Tubes all over his pale body. I sit beside him and grab hold of his cold hand. Tears gently make their way down my cheeks dripping of me onto Jay’s hand. He doesn’t flinch at all.
“Spending time with love ones during comas can really help them get better…” The nurse adds as we all nod.
“I’m going to spend every second with you, Jay, I love you…” I say as I look up to Nathan, who’s staring down at my hand holding Jay’s his eyes filling with guilt. What’s up with him? I notice Max looking down at Nathan, worries and concern written over his face. Something’s going on.
Kelsey, Tom and Siva eventually rush in and stare at Jay’s ill body, Kelsey walks over her heels clipping on the solid floor. Suddenly she turns back around and hugging Tom. Nareesha goes over and hugs Siva. I wish I could hug Jay right now.
One by one people leave until it’s left with Nathan as he hugs me.
“I better go… Are you sure you don’t want to sleep round tonight?”
“No, I’m sure, I’m spending every second with Jay…” I confirm, before he kisses my forehead and leaves the hospital. Just me and you, Jay… Just me and you…
