The dance was alright, Jade figured. She was sat in her room, just replaying the night in her head. She was meant to be at an after party right now, but she had lied to everyone and told them that she wasn’t feeling too well. Liam hadn’t even offered to come be her nurse. Apparently the prospect of a good party mattered more to him than her health. Jade was actually pretty angry about that.
Jade was out of the dance for the majority of the time anyways because she couldn’t get the previous night out of her head. She really wished she could have though, so she could have had fun with Liam. Instead, she just felt terrible about everything and how she had cheated on the poor boy. He was still as in love with her as ever, completely oblivious that something might be up with Jade.
To make everything up to Liam, Jade had acted even more attached to him than she normally did. She kept telling him she loved him, thinking that saying it constantly, even though she didn’t mean it, would somehow wipe away what she did last night.
She didn’t leave Liam’s side the whole time because she was trying so hard to make up for what she had done. Liam absolutely loved it though. He kept whispering things to Jade about how he was the luckiest guy alive and stuff like that, and Jade was glad because it made it seem like she was making up for the previous night with Perrie.
Even though Jade was next to Liam the whole time, her thoughts were somewhere else the majority of the time. It was simple things that took her mind away to Perrie. Once Jade’s thoughts were centered on the blonde, it was very difficult to focus them on something else.
Jade remembered feeling Liam place his palms on the small of her back to bring her closer and then instantly flashing back to the previous night with Perrie. She couldn’t help but think:Perrie had been so much gentler when doing the exact same thing.
Jade had so many memories with Perrie that it wasn’t really hard to trigger thoughts of the blonde. Certain songs reminded her of Perrie, people that Perrie used to hang out with a lot reminded her of Perrie, and the blue decorations lining the walls reminded Jade an awful lot of Perrie’s eyes.
As Jade thought more and more about the night, saying ‘alright’ to describe the dance started to sound like she was sugarcoating it. It got a lot worse towards the end.
First of all, Liam was getting slightly annoyed with her because he had to keep waving his hand in front of her face or shaking her gently to get her to focus on him. Jade just couldn’t help but absorb herself in the memories of last night, even if she knew it was completely wrong.
Liam and Jade couldn’t even share a dialogue of more than a couple sentences before Jade would drift off to her dream world again. Liam became annoyed, and Jade always ended up in a mood if Liam was. He rubbed off on her easily.
It didn’t end there. The emcee for the dance had stopped the music to announce that the crowning of the king and queen of the dance was happening. Jade knew she wasn’t going to be crowned queen, so she didn’t get her hopes up by secretly praying that she would win. She knew every girl at the dance was secretly hoping that they would win, but at the same time they were all pretty sure on the girl that would actually get the title.
What came as a surprise was that after the crowning, student government had decided that a new category would be announced: cutest couple. The second Jade heard the title she just got a really bad feeling. She didn’t even glance at Liam, who had squeezed her around the waist and sent her a wide smile.
The second Jade heard her and Liam’s name ring through the whole gym, she wanted the ground to swallow her up. This was just another reason it would make it even harder to leave Liam.
