Today was just not my day: government people that took a visit from hell came by our house to take it away from us, the sadness from my parents absence is still in me, and my siblings and I are stuck in our car with no where to go.
"Are you guys alright?" I called to the backseat.
"Yea-" Their answer was suddenly interrupted my a series of coughs.
"Jeremy, what happened? Are you okay? Do you think you're sick? Is it just a little cold? Are you hur-"
"I'm fine, Heather. We've got bigger things to worry about," Jeremy insisted.
So we drove. Marcus, Jeremy, Sidney, and I drove and drove to basically no where in particular. New York is a huge place, there's got to be somewhere we can stay.
The bad part is, Jeremy's coughing increased by the minute. Soon enough, it was just an endless supply of coughing and wheezing.
"Oh my god, Jeremy! What's happening to you? Marcus, we've got to go to the hospital! Hurry!" I started to panic, for the millionth time this week.
It wasn't long until we were rushing into the ER, with Marcus carrying Jeremy in his arms.
"We don't know what's happening to him. We were just driving when he started to cough uncontrollably," Marcus explained to a nurse, doctors and nurses following us into a patient room.
The room wasn't really that special. It was completely white, which matched all the decoration inside. It looked like this place was at least 30 years old. My older brother sent Jeremy down on the rock-hard bed.
"Heather, am I going to be okay?" My younger brother silently asked. My eyes shot to every nurse in this claustrophobic room, their eyes were filled with sympathy.
"Jeremy, I promise you everything will be fine. It could just be a small cold, so you have nothing to worry about," I calmly promised. However, I wasn't 100% sure.
"I need to wait outside for a bit. I'll be right back," I said quickly, before I could get any more claustrophobic.
With my head down, I quickly walked around the corner. I just needed to sit out in the waiting room for bit, before anything becomes overwhelming.
That's not what actually happened, though.
My petite body soon came into contact with a taller one, my footing becoming unbalanced. Before hitting the tiled ground, a paired of arms found their way on my back, catching me.
"I am so sorry. I didn't see you walking in front of me. I should've been paying attention. Are you okay?" An accented voice talked to me.
I looked up to find hazel green eyes looking back down at me. They reminded me of the color flower meadow, but with mostly dirt. ((wow yeah dirt is so attractive good job alyssa))
"Uhh, yeah. I'm sorry for bumping into you with my body," I stupidly said back. That was a wonderful first impression, Heather.
His low chuckle filled my ears, unconsciously bring a small smile on my face.
"It's fine. I'm Ashton, by the way."
"Heather," My small hand then becomes engulfed in his big ones, shaking it slowly.
"Well I have to go see my mo- visit my friend, so I'll see you later?" His statement coming out more like a question.
"Uhh, yeah. Well, maybe. I don't think we're going to be here much longer," I couldn't tell if I was disappointed or happy. Wait, obviously I should be happy because Jeremy will be fine. However, I'd be very disappointed if I don't see Ashton again, but that's never happened before. Guys don't usually like me. It's not like Ashton likes me though, we just met.
"It was nice to me-"
"Ashton!"
"I gotta go. Meet me here in 10 minutes, maybe? I don't mind if you don't want to. I just think it would be nice to make a new frie-"
"Ashton, get your stupid white ass over here!" Immediately, his adorable cheeks reddened. Wait, adorable? Where did that come from?
"Hold on!" Ashton called back,"Sorry, I'll see you later."
We turned away at the same time, only for us to look back at each other simultaneously. Then quickly turning our heads, like we're in the 6th grade.
However, once I was facing forward, my body bumped into another person. Great job, Heather. That's two people in a matter of 8 minutes.
"I am so sorry. I'm not myself today. Are you okay?" My words unexpectedly quickened it's pace.
Yeah, I'm fine. No worries," I look up to find blue eyes this time. How many attractive guys are at this hospital? Wait, attractive? What's going on with me today?
"Oh I'm Luke, and I saw that my stupid ass friend, Ashton, didn't even get your number. So me, being the nice friend I am, would like to ask you for it."
Smooth.
"How would I know you're not lying to me?" I quickly ask, trying to give myself a couple more minutes to bring some confidence in me.
"You don't," Luke sighed, leavng me to stare at him with a "What the fuck is this dumbass white boy talking about?" face, "Ugh, just give it to me. I'm doing you a huge favor, which will help you and Ashton in the future."
So being my stupid self, I gave Luke my phone number. I'm probably going to regret this later on.
"Thanks, babe."
Babe? What the hell?
