we walk in silence. the blanket of quiet indigo presses down on me from above as I glance at the sea. it's darker that ever, writhing and spilling over itself to get to the shore.
I tilt my head to look at James. his hair is wild like the sea, and his warm eyes remind me of the sun, burning bright with passion. freckles dance across his face like constellations, each star connecting in some way with another. he notices me looking, but doesn't say anything.
"so..." he starts. "why are you up so late?"
"I could ask you the same question."
"I work night shifts at my job," he answers simply. he looks at me quizzically. "do you have a job?"
I sigh. "what do you think?"
"I'll take that as a no."
I pause. I feel something in my mind telling me to quit being so closed, but sometimes I can't help it. I decide on saying "I'm a college student."
he nods, then falls silent. I prefer it like this. we walk for a while, just listening to the sound of our footsteps and the sea and our own breathing.
eventually we reach a pier. it juts out awkwardly into the moving water around it, rotting wooden beams barely holding up against the solid waves of force slapping it again and again. we both stop. "want to go that way?" James says.
I nod.
"well..." he murmurs, brushing his hand against mine. it shocks me, but when I don't say anything he does it again. this time he tangles his long, rough fingers with mine. "let's go."
this has no quality anymore hehe
not like it had any to begin with
I feel like this story is just a way for me to write without it having to have an ending, which is relaxing
anyways hope you enjoy this hot mess
