Chapter 6: Some Say
June
"Man, I love New York" Zooey said while standing of the Top of the Rock in Manhattan. While other students went on some crazy spring break vacations, she took the next flight to the east coast to visit her sister. Okay, maybe Zooey also went to a typical Spring Break Party at her campus but that's it. While Olivia was partying somewhere in Mexico, Zooey preferred the big apple.
Her sister Madison was living here for four years now and was about to graduate. She still didn't know if she would stay in New York or not, so Zooey took the advantage of visiting her sister again. She mostly did it once a year since turning 16. This time it felt weird because it was the first time that Zooey took a six hours flight from LAX to JFK on her own to visit her sister. Beforehand her mother always drove her to the airport of Portland and everything seemed totally organized. But this time Zooey had to find her way through the airport jungle at LAX again. She hated it. She hated it since arriving here for the first time, she hated it during her Christmas break and she hated it now. Why was LAX like a whole city? Totally confusing.
But after arriving in New York she felt home again. She loved this city. There was something about this city Zooey couldn't explain. It was just love at first sight.
Madison picked her up from the airport and the sisters made dinner together before discussing their plans for the next days. Zooey wanted to visit her favorite places of the city, she wanted to have a cake in her favorite café in Brooklyn and the best pizza of New York in this tiny Italian restaurant in Williamsburg. If she could, she would move here tomorrow. But she couldn't since she was still studying in Santa Barbara. It's not that Zooey hated her new home in California, but her dream was to study in New York so she was still a bit heartbroken that it didn't come true.
The whole week contained of many pizzas, ice cream and cronuts. In between time the sisters went to Battery Park, watched a Broadway play and even went to the beach. Spring already arrived in the city so they tried to enjoy the first sunbeams. It just felt great.
So after one week in New York it was already Zooey's last day in the big apple and in her sister's lovely apartment in Brooklyn. Traditionally the sisters always ordered Chinese food on this day and watched some movies together. Today they watched "10 things I hate about you" and "Elizabethtown". Typical romantic comedies but the girls just loved it. Although Zooey always got a bit emotional when watching romantic movies, she could handle it. She tried not to think about Eric as often.
When the closing credits were shown Madison's phone was ringing.
"Man, it's almost midnight, who is this?" Zooey laughed.
Madison just got up and ran to the phone. Zooey could watch her sister grinning and smiling all over her face while talking to the unknown person at the phone. A few minutes later Madison came back, still smiling like Cheshire cat.
"Um, who made you smile so much?" Zooey wanted to know.
"Well" Madison was still grinning. "It was just a friend"
"Come one, it wasn't just a friend. You're a bad liar!" Zooey laughed.
"Okay" Madison sighed. "It was Julian....we're kind of dating"
"Woooooooaaaahhhh, really? Why didn't you tell me?"
"I don't know....I think there wasn't the right moment?"
"Madison, why are you waiting for the right moment to tell your sister that you're dating a guy?"
"Um, don't know....maybe because I didn't want to hurt you. I didn't want you to feel sad or so....I mean, after your break up with Eric you seemed so heartbroken, so...."
