December

"I don't want to intervene in your love life, I just want to warn you! I mean, Jesper is a musician, he's on tour quite often. Stop thinking you're the only girl he dates" Adam leaned against the kitchen table while facing Zooey.
She couldn't understand why her roommate was so negative about the whole Jesper-case. But since she told him about the almost-kiss, he reacted kind of weird.
"I never said we're dating! We're just friends. Nothing happened" Zooey explained.
"Not yet!" Adam interrupted.
"Well, and what if? It's my life. I don't know why you're making such a scene here. I'm a grown up, I can decide whom I want to date" Zooey reacted a bit pissed off.
"Of course you can! I just want to warn you. I mean, I know two girls who had a few dates with Jesper. And both told me that he just dumped them after a few dates without any explanation. Of course he was busy with touring but still...doesn't sound like the nice charming gentleman the media portrays him!"
"The media doesn't even know him!" Zooey objected a bit angry.
"Plus, he hooked up with this it-girl..." Adam rolled his eyes while opening a bottle of coke.
"Yes, he did. But he's single. He can do whatever he wants"
"Sure, but if he's dating you and will cheat on you, I will whip him!" Adam said in an angry voice.
"What the fuck is your problem, hm?" Zooey suddenly wanted to know. Adam was so weird in the past minutes, she just didn't understand the reason of his behavior.
"Well" he sighed after a few seconds of thinking. "After everything you've went through with your exes I just don't want you to be hurt again. And somehow this Jesper dude looks like someone who could hurt you" Adam finally declared.
"That's all? You just want to protect me from getting hurt again?" Zooey was a bit surprised. In a way she thought there was something else he didn't tell her. She didn't even want to think about it but....somehow she thought that maybe he had a crush on her? Sure, he had a girlfriend but still....sadly Zooey couldn't really discuss it with Cathy since she was madly in love with Adam.
"That's it! Believe me. I just don't like guys who hurt their girlfriends....maybe I'm a bit prejudiced because I have some musician friends who told me so many ugly stories how they've cheated on their girlfriends and didn't even care. I just don't want you to go through the same shit"
"It's okay Adam. In a way it's even a but cute that you're so protective but....I'm a grown up and I still can decide what I want to do with my life, okay?" Zooey straightened out.
"You're right"
"Good" Zooey smiled again. She couldn't really be mad at Adam for being prejudiced. She wasn't stupid, she knew that musicians get around a lot and therefore meet a lot of new people – especially girls. And who could even blame young musicians for using their status to get laid?

With December starting, Zooey's birthday was coming up. Whatever she would be doing this year, it would be very special anyway. Adam and Cathy planned a typical British thing to do on Zooey's birthday. Something she would never ever consider doing on a birthday – and on any other day of the year: Attending a football match. Or soccer. However they call it here, Zooey thought. She would never get used to the term football for soccer.

Adam bought tickets for the match Arsenal vs. Chelsea. Since Adam was a huge Arsenal fan it was clear for whom they were rooting for today. He has given both girls some Arsenal fan scarves and told them the most important facts about his favorite team on their way to the stadium which was in the middle of a residential area. Zooey was impressed by the people that sang along before the match and in the half time. To be honest, she was never really into sports anyway so the only sports events she has attended in the US were some local basketball games in Portland and a Dodgers game in LA. But that's it. She was never really into sports anyway.

"So, how do you like it so far?" Adam asked in the half time. He looked so happy. His team was up so of course he had a happy face.
"Yeah, I like it. It's very energetic. I never expected it!" Zooey told him.
"I told you! It's not just 22 people running after a ball" Adam laughed.
"No it's not" Zooey grinned when Adam excused himself to order some pints for them.
"Why is he so cute?" Cathy wondered a bit lost in thoughts when Adam was gone.
"Girl, you really need to calm down. He still has his girlfriend" Zooey informed her.
