Percy's POV

  "Stop it!" Annabeth screamed.

I was standing in a gloomy stone corridor without a single spark of light. Gloomy shadows danced along the walls, sending shivers running down my spine. The only signs of life were two young girls who seemed oblivious to my presence. One of them had straight blond hair and green eyes that glinted in the darkness, and the other was lying on the floor, her face contorted in pain.

  Annabeth.

I watched in terror as my girlfriend writhed in pain before me. She twitched and twisted unnaturally as she let out bloodcurdling screams. I knew that the other girl was somehow torturing her,  but my feet were rooted to the spot, rendering me helpless.

Suddenly, the girl lifted her head, her green eyes staring straight at me so intensely that I nearly lost my balance. She was what you would call beautiful, with straight silver-blond hair, flawless, porcelain skin and high cheekbones. She was wearing what a teenager would usually wear—white top, denim jeans, leather jacket—but something about her felt off. My eyes fell on the heart-shaped necklace fastened around her neck. It glinted in the dark, giving me the creeps.

She was undeniably gorgeous, but instead of admiration, all I felt was hate. She was hurting my girlfriend, and she was going to pay for that.

I clenched my fists, breathing heavily as I forced myself to look at the girl dead in the eye. A sneer was plastered on her face and she let out a cold laugh. "The famous Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon. Honoured to meet you at last." she said in a cold, drawling voice.

"Who are you, how do you know me, and what are you doing to Annabeth?" I asked threateningly. To be honest, I wasn't sure if I sounded threatening at all—my voice was shaky, and I was pretty sure I was trembling too.

The girl walked forward until she was a couple of yards away from me. The look in her green eyes still unnerved me—it had a strange resemblance to the look on Gaia's face, whose eyes held millennia of knowledge. I knew that she was a demigod, but what demigod would do something so wrong?

The girl smiled evilly. "Never mind who I am," she purred, her voice sickly sweet. "I believe this," she gestured to the suffering Annabeth. "is your's, right?"

I gritted my teeth. "Annabeth doesn't belong to anyone, so you better stop what you're doing-" I was cut off mid-sentence by  my Wise Girl, who had somehow recovered enough to let out a chain of colourful language.

"You'll never get away with this! Never!" she growled, her gray eyes hardened with determination. "You evil, twisted little..."

The girl smirked. "The great daughter of Athena. I've waited so long to get my revenge." As the girl sighed in mock exasperation, I realized that I had seen her before. Sadly, my brain never worked properly when I needed it to, and I couldn't seem to recall a single thing about her.

No, no one I knew could be so cold-blooded.

"They'll come," Annabeth growled, her voice shaking with emotion. She wiped the blood away from a cut on her cheek, then continued. "Percy will come. My friends will come. My friends will kill you and the monster you call your master." I watched as the girl's face contorted in anger at the mention of her 'master'.

"You think you can stop my master this easily?" spat the girl as the air around us became still. It felt like the temperature had suddenly dropped—whoever this demigod was, she was powerful. "Then you're wrong. Because when my master gets the blood of his enemy, he's going to be immortal and undefeatable! Crucio!"

Annabeth gagged and coughed as blood splattered onto the floor around her. I stumbled backwards, gasping in horror.  But I knew that I couldn't do anything to save her, and I hated that feeling of helplessness.

"Heed my warning, son of Poseidon," snarled the girl, turning her attention back to me. "My master will rise. Then, he will destroy the gods and you puny little heroes!"

I woke up in my bed, sweating.

"It was just a dream," I told myself. "Just a dream."

'But demigod dreams always mean something,' a voice at the back of my head whispered. 'Big or small, they always mean something.' I shuddered, thinking about all the previous dreams I'd had. And this one seemed so real...

I leapt out of my bed. The only thing I could think of was Annabeth. I had to find her. I had to make sure she was okay.

I made my way towards the Athena cabin. It was the middle of the night, and the only source of light was the full moon shining brightly in the sky. I knew that Annabeth would still be wide awake, working. Ever since her mother had invited her to redesign Mount Olympus, she'd been up 24/7, despite my protests.

I entered the Athena cabin, listening to my own heart race in my chest. The lights were off, and there was no sign of a working Annabeth. I tiptoed towards my girlfriend's bed and stuck my hand under the covers. Nothing. Annabeth wasn't in the cabin.

Panicking, I scrambled to the lights switch, turning on all of them. The room lit up as indignant murmurs came from Annabeth's half-siblings.

Laney, Annabeth's half-sister, rubbed her eyes and glared at me. "Percy! You're not supposed to be in here, you know. Whether Annabeth is your girlfriend or not. Is she?" she asked curiously. Laney was nine years old—one of the youngest kids at camp—and had just arrived a few weeks ago.

I ignored her question. "Laney. Where is Annabeth?"

Laney glanced at the empty bunk, then shrugged. "I dunno. She was working half an hour ago. Maybe she's in the bathroom or something." she murmured, her eyelids drooping as she hugged her pillow to her chest.

"Then go check the bathroom," I ordered, on the verge of hyperventilating.

Laney sighed and rolled her eyes. "Relax, Percy. You know how capable Annabeth is. It's not like you just had a nightmare about her being kidnapped."

I raised my eyebrows. "For a daughter of Athena, you're not the brightest." I commented snidely.

Laney's eyes widened. She didn't even look offended, which made me regret what I had just said. Rolling out of bed, she dashed off to the bathroom.

I spun around and exited the cabin, trying not to break down. There was only one person I knew and trusted who would help me.

  I had to find Chiron.
