*So sorry it has taken me so long to post, however all the support and people asking for updates and posting comments is really uplifting so finally here it is! Unfortunately it is more of a filler chapter however I have already started working on the next one so should be up by next week at the latest (:
(Sorry for any spelling or grammatical errors)
*Kellan’s POV*
My gaze was still set on the female when I felt Winston approach. I could see his reaction ranging from shock, anger, the position to attack and then confusion - all of which I was feeling but only more so on the confusion part. 'Who was this female?' the thought swirled through my head followed by many more such as 'where did she come from, what happened to her? Was she really my mate?’ but most importantly 'was she ok?’ Now that was a stupid question, of course she wasn’t ok!
She needed medical assistance – that I was sure of – however it was something we couldn’t offer. It had been so long since I had contacted another pack, so long since I had even been in my human form. Was this female really worth the risk and the threat of my past resurfacing?
“So what’s the plan” Winston suddenly spoke up through our mind link, it wasn’t so much a question but a statement, we had never really encountered another wolf for a long time and they certainly weren’t injured nor female. Most encounters had ended up with a fight all of which we had won, foolish lone rouges taking on a group of us.
I looked towards my old friend for once an obvious answer not surfacing to the forefront of my mind. As I glanced behind me I could see the others walking over, all of whom would want the same answer. I knew why they all looked to me for answers, I guess it was natural to do so, but sometimes it was such a pain.
A sigh enveloped the air as I considered my options, but in my mind there was only one choice, “We make sure she receives medical care” I replied, addressing them all. I grabbed one of the bags we always carried containing clothes and an emergency phone or two. Then left them with the female and trotted a few paces away quickly changing forms and getting dressed.
The first thing I noticed in once back in my human form was how dulled my senses felt, although they were clearly better than average humans they were nothing in comparison to what I had in my wolf form. I emerged from behind the tree I had used as cover and took up a stance in front of the group, a plan having formulated in the small span of a few minutes since I had made the decision as to what we were to do. My feet felt clumsy beneath me and as I stood there my balance was less than perfect, but I was soon getting the hang of things again.
“Winston and Saxon head towards the roads and find us a truck, by any means necessary and then get it as close to here as we can. Georgia and Nicholas search through what medical supplies we have and patch her up best you can – I need to make a few phone calls” I announced still through the mind link already turning my back as I just expected them to get on with things.
Grabbing the phone from my pocket and searching through the contacts I settled upon the name, ‘Declan’. I walked away from the group and placed the phone to my ear letting out a cough as I warmed up my voice – how long it had been since I had last formed words out loud.
The call connected: “Declan, its Kellan – I need that favour.”
A few short words were exchanged and then it was settled, they were to drive her over to Declan’s pack and there they would see to the female and I would do my best to keep the past in the past.
When I returned I could see Georgia and Nicholas doing their best with the very limited resources, but the look Georgia gave me was worrying. She was still in her wolf form, which would make things complicated. Many of those like us who were injured would change back to their human form, but her mind must still feel threatened as staying like that was more a form of defence – your wolf form far more robust than that of your human skin.
It was only half an hour later that Winston and Saxon returned in a rather nice deep green jeep, I didn’t ask where or how they got it but the fact they had hotwired the ignition confirmed what would have been my first guess. We didn’t usually do this type of stuff, far from it, but this in my mind was an emergency.
I glanced over the group, all of whom were now in their human form before looking down to the female wolf still laying where she had passed out. As my gaze travelled to the jeep I realised the only way we were going to get her to Declan’s was by placing her in the boot - much to my displeasure.
“Saxon and Nicholas help me get her into the boot, Winston you’ll drive and I’ll direct you. Georgia remove the parcel shelf and watch for any signs of her coming around it’ll take us about an hour to get there” he called already moving into position. She was much lighter than any of them thought and they quickly lifted her into positon, despite the odd involuntary flinch she didn’t stir.
We travelled in silence, the only voice being my own when I barked up a direction and although distracted I still knew the way to this place like the back of my hand having been there so much as a child. We hadn’t agreed upon on the silence but with a foreign wolf laying in the boot and my own thoughts racing it seemed only appropriate we travel like this. The whole way nothing changed, the odd glance back to Georgia to see whether the wolf had stirred, but other than that my gaze stayed on the road.
***
After the longest hour of my life we pulled into the long foreboding driveway, buildings dotted either side it felt so bizarre after living in the open for so long. I was risking everything by coming here and suddenly Winston knew it.
