After The End

Chapter XVI

"Finally, we can end this. We can settle our feud here and now". Omar looked at the Mount Vernon from a distance as he spoke to Jackson and Ronny. Jackson had a pair of binoculars as he looked upon the city. Jackson said, "I don't see anyone guarding the gate". He lowered the binoculars as he said, "I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing". "It's a great thing" Omar swiftly said as a smile formed. Omar then turned around to look at the person behind him. The person was wearing a backpack. Omar began to dig into it as Jackson asked what he was doing. Omar said, "What did you think we were gonna do? Walk in? No, we're gonna make our presence felt". He then pulled out belts of grenades. As he showed Ronny and Jackson, a twisted smile formed on his face. A crazed look in eyes made Ronny feel as though Omar became obsessed with destroying Mount Vernon. Omar said, "Several backpacks are filled with them. We took them from the dead officers back at camp". He then handed Ronny and Jackson a belt as he said, "We're all gonna show them that we can fight back".

Meanwhile, on the other side of the wall, Gavin was asleep next to Grace as the two had been asleep all morning. An alarm went off that signaled for Gavin to get up. He begrudgingly hit the snooze button as he slowly sat up and got out of bed. The night before was rough and he simply wanted to stay in bed all day. As he dragged his feet along the floor, he eventually made it to the kitchen where he made himself coffee. Once it was brewed and in his cup, he walked over to the nearby bookshelf and picked a book to read. As he sat in the living room sofa chair, he took a sip of his coffee as he tried to wake up. He was unsure of how Tyler would act today after what had occurred last night. Gavin tried to shake the thought as he began to read his book. As he read, he heard a rumble. It was quiet but noticeable, however, Gavin thought nothing of it. Out of the front window, he saw several people run by. As he began to read again, he heard a louder rumble as his house began to shake. Gavin set his book down as he began to wonder what was happening. He saw more people run past his house. By now Grace had woken up as she walked into the living room and said, "Hey what's going on outside"? Gavin said, "I'm not sure. I'll go have a look". As Gavin stood up and set down his coffee, a loud thud was heard that was proceeded by muffled gunshots. Gavin ran outside and looked to the west side of the city to see the wall had fallen and the surviving Islanders had made their way into the city. Gavin then ran inside the house and said, "Grace, get Albee and find somewhere to hide. I'll come back for you when I feel it's best for you to escape". He then loaded his own gun as he ran outside.

Once outside, he ran into Suzy who was on her way to join the fight. Suzy said, "What's happening"? Gavin said, "The islanders have breached the west side of the wall. Kill anyone who doesn't look familiar". Then the two ran to the front lines. Once they joined the fight, Gavin realized that Tyler wasn't participating in the battle. It confused him but he continued to shoot.

On the other side of the battle zone, Omar, Ronny, and the group began to push further into the city as they still had leftover grenades that they threw at the military officers. Since the officers were caught off guard from this attack, it was easy for the Islanders to push deep into the city. Most of the islanders were spread out which made it much more difficult for the officers to kill. Omar was near Ronny as he said, "We'll never win as long as they have more ammo. When I was here, I found out they have a whole storage facility full of ammo and weapons. If we can destroy that, we will have a fighting chance". Ronny said, "If you can show me where it is, we can take it out". Omar then pointed Ronny in the direction as the two began to make their way. Meanwhile, Xavier and Nick were hiding behind a building as Xavier said, "So what are we gonna do about Gavin and Suzy"? Nick said, "Well Suzy, we need to get her outta here. She's coming with us". Xavier quickly hid behind the building as a barrage of bullets hit the corner of the building. He looked over at Nick as he said, "What about Gavin"? Nick said, "Let Ronny decide that one".
