Francois got out of his car and hurried out to the sports field. Everyone appeared to just be chilling on the plastic chairs, making him assume that they were taking a break from rehearsing. He found Mayor Goodway talking with Farmer Yumi and tapped her on the shoulder.
She turned around. "Yes? Oh, Francois."
"Bonjour, Mayor. Sorry I am late. I had to stop and get the tires checked on my Lamborghini. But as you can see, all seems to be well."
Goodway rolled her eyes slightly. She knew Francois was just trying to brag about his new car.
"No trouble, Francois. Don't worry about it. We were just about to get back to work so just stand by. We're in the middle of rehearsing the dance for the seventh number."
"Very well. I shall go and..stand over there." He said, walking over to some of the others to start up a conversation about his new car.
After a few more minutes Goodway and Yumi paused their conversation, knowing it was time to rehearse again. Goodway clapped her hands to get everyone else's attention.
"Everyone! Break time is over!"
Everyone stopped talking except for the Turbots, who bickered as everyone else watched awkwardly.
"All I've heard this whole week is 'my new car, my new car!' You're such a show off!" Shouted Cap'n Turbot.
"You're just jealous, Horatio, you fishy flub!" Claimed Francois.
Goodway cleared her throat. "Boys."
"Well even if I were, you'd still be rubbing it in my face that MY car isn't as good as YOURS!"
"I would not! Zis is completely out of the question! I think-"
"BOYS!"
Cap'n Turbot and Francois quickly turned around to see everyone staring at them, including an irritated Mayor Goodway.
She sighed. "We will resume rehearsals now. Everyone go to our makeshift dance floor and get in your places.
The cast could see that Mayor Goodway was just a bit on the moody side today, so without arguing or whining(even Chase)they made their way to the dance floor, all silent.
Humdinger followed but lagged behind, not wanting to get "mixed up" with all those "freaks."
As he passed Goodway she slapped him on the back with her clipboard. "Hurry up, you idiot!"
Humdinger rubbed at his back and shoulder. "Listen here, I will not stand for this type of disrespect! I've done nothing this whole time but obey your orders and this is the kind of treatment I get!"
"Well either step on it a bit or you're out of the show!"
"Why are you threatening me?! I didn't do anything!"
"Well if you would just hurry-"
Everyone was watching them from the dance floor and Mr. Porter finally decided to walk over there and settle things.
"Alright, alright. Break it up." He said, coming between the two mayors. "Mayor Goodway, you were getting on Cap'n Turbot and Francois for arguing and yet here you are doing the same thing with Humdinger." He said as the two mayors glared at each other with their arms crossed. "Let's not make a big scene and instead practice for the..well, you know, scene."
Mayor Goodway sighed, feeling slightly ashamed. "You're right. We're running out of time. The show's in six days. Let's just forget the whole thing and get to practicing."
"For once I agree. Let's forget it." Said Humdinger, though still looking grouchy.
Mayor Goodway went to stand by Francois in front of the dance floor that was laid out on the grass.
"Alright, everyone. Francois will now show you the second half of the dance. Francois?"
"Ok, everybody. First you wave your hand like zis and zen you kick your right leg like zis and zen you twist and jump like, 'whoopee!' And zen you kick and-"
The cast looked perplexed as they watched Francois do all those complicated moves.
"Zen you step 1-2-3 and 4 and again, 1-2-3 and 4 and-"
"Hold up! Hold up! That's too much! Go slower!" Complained Humdinger.
"I feel weird saying this, but he's right. Please take it one step at a time." Said Rocky.
"Very well. Ok, repeat after me. First, you wave your hand in circular motion like zis."
"First, you wave your hand in circular motion like this." They all said.
Francois slapped his forehead. "No! You do not SAY it! You DO it! It's a DANCE, remember?!"
"Ohhhhh."
"Ok. Geez, no need to get upset."
"I feel stupid now."
"Ok. Let's start over."
Francois sighed. "Wave your hand like zis. Everyone got that?"
"Yeah, seems easy enough so far."
"SO FAR."
"Next, you kick your right leg like so." Instructed Francois.
"Yes, and be careful not to kick anyone." Said Goodway.
But her warning was ignored when Julius accidentally kicked Justina, who knocked over the next person, who knocked over the next person, until everyone was falling down onto each other like a line of dominoes.
"Whoooooaaahhh!" They all shouted.
Goodway sighed and buried her head in her hand. Francois was smiling, feeling like they could all still make this work.
"Ok. Let's go again. We'll get it. You're all very lucky to have me, Francois, as your choreographer."
Humdinger stood up and brushed himself off. "Humph. That's what YOU think." He mumbled.
