"So, tell me all about the boy." My mother jumps onto the couch and puts a pillow into her lap.
"Mommm!!" I complain, and get up to fill our coffee mugs.
"C'monnnn!" She protests, "You know Mommy doesn't like not knowing things!" She whines and follows me. I put my hands on the counter and turn to face her.
"You get THREE answers, that's all. What do you wanna know?" I ask, sighing.
Her eyes light up and the cogs in her brain start working.
"Uhm... Well I already know his name... Oh! Is he cute?" She sits at the table and rests her head in her palms.
"Most likely: no." Dad says as he walks through the kitchen to go outside.
"Hey!" She defends her question and he shrugs, going out of the back door.
"Uh... I guess..." I look down, and she slams her hands down.
"Yes!! I knew it, I knew it, I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!!!" She says excitedly.
"Is he nice?"
"Yeah, duh."
"Geez, okay. Is he a good kisser?"
"Mom!"
"Sorry..."***
DING DONG
"Whyyyyyy??" Mom groans, as I ring the doorbell of my Grandparent's house.
"Just relax, would you? This is our fifth dinner with them, just be glad dad's not here this time.
"Oh God, that was bad!" She slumps against the door.
"Mom you might not wanna-"
"Girls!"
"Argh!"
My mother falls straight through the door and collapses on the maid.
"Incredible." I shake my head, smiling.
"Lorelai what on earth are you doing on the floor?!" Emily exclaims, and I smirk.
"Come on, girls, your grandfather is waiting."***
"Come ON Mom!" Rory calls, dragging Mom behind her.
"Ugh, why? Luke's here, can't I go sit in the car?" She complains.
"No, you need to make sure Sookie doesn't set herself on fire!"
"Miss Gilmore, nice to see you." A man who looks about my father's age with dark hair stands in front of my sister.
"Mr Medina... hi." Rory shuffles nervously.
"Oh, um, this is my mother Lorelai, my stepfather Luke and my little sister Y/n." Rory introduces us all to her teacher.
"It's very nice to meet you all, I'm Rory's English Literature teacher." He says, his eyes locked on Lorelai. She shifts, a little uncomfortable, and he snaps out of his gaze.
"Well, I'd better be going. Nice to meet you all,
and Rory, paper's due Monday." He smiles and walks in the opposite direction to us.
"Disgusting!" Mom shivers.
"That was entertaining." Dad chuckles, putting his arm around her.
"Hey, Y/n/n." Parker walks up to me and grins.
"Hey you, what you doing here?" I peck his cheek, and Mom makes heart symbols in the air and Dad and Rory drag her away to the rest of the Chilton Annual Cake Sale.
"Watching my brother hit on girls and looking for you."
"Awh, you're sweet. Want some free cake?" I grin widely.
"How could I say no to free cake?" Parker takes me hand and I lead him to our table.
"Hey, Sookie!" I run over and hug her.
"Hey long time no see!" Sookie chuckles. "How you doing, pumpkin?" She asks, handing me two pieces of cake. I pass one to Parker.
"Good, this is Parker, by the way." I introduce them.
"The boyfriend?!" Sookie gasps, and I internally freak out.
"Uhm... Sookie, that hasn't been-"
"Wow, this cake is good!" Mom interrupts.
"Oh, hey Parker how you been?"
"Good, Lorelai, you?" He becomes extra-polite, which makes me walk away a bit to try to contain my laughter.
"C'mon, let's go steal food." I laugh, and Mom winks at me in her usual awkward fashion, and I shoot her an embarrassed look.
"Okay, so first stop, Paris's table." I begin.
"That's a no-brainer, and conveniently right there." Parker laughs and points at Paris's lonely table.
"Hey Paris, what's up?" I smile at her, partially sincerely, partially sarcastically.
"Welcome back, Judas." She glares at me.
"Judas...?" Parker questions.
"Four months ago I stole Paris's notes for Rory to use on the exams she missed." I roll my eyes.
"And you! You didn't even talk to Tristan for me!" Paris screams at him.
"Uh, Y/n? Help?" Parker pinches me on the arm.
"What are you looking at?"
"That guy and my mom." I point at Rory's english teacher, who is still working on getting with my mother."
"Ah, Max Medina. He was very pushy with my mother, too." He sighs.
"I'll be right back." I say, walking quickly towards them.
"Hi! Mr Medina, was it?" I butt into their conversation quickly.
"Um... yes- and you are?" He asks suspiciously.
"Rory's sister. I see you're getting on well with my mother." I cut straight to the point.
"Yes, she's a great girl." He winks at her and she turns away awkwardly, while I just try not to gag.
"Listen, sweetie. She's taken." I say condescendingly.
"Oh, I-I apologise, Ms Gilmore." He turns bright red.
"And how about you?" He turns to me.
"How about me what?" I ask sharply.
"Are you seeing anyone?" He asks, clearly desperate for anyone in the Gilmore Family now. My eyes go wide at his proposal, and he stands a little closer to me, making my mother gasp. With one swift movement I slap him straight around the face.
"You bitch." I say cuttingly, as he holds his face in pain, and I turn and run.
"Lorelai?!" Emily marches up to my mother angrily.
"Mother! How may I help you?" Mom sighs.
"How on earth are you letting Y/n run around slapping her sister's teachers? Who on earth are you?!"
"Mom! Shut up!"***
"Hey, kid. What's up?" Dad sits next to me on a bench outside Chilton.
"I don't wanna talk." I mutter, resting my head on my hand.
"Why? What happened?"
"Dad just leave me alone okay?!" I shout at him, before turning the other way.
"You know - in our lives we always had a democracy, just like your mother always had with Rory. But not anymore, Y/n, not if your gonna be disrespecting me like this." He warns.
"I don't care anymore, leave me alone." I say crying as I walk away.
