"You know, the world would be a much better place without Christopher in it." I sit on the sofa next to my mom, stuffing a chilli fry in my mouth.
"Stop. This isn't funny anymore!" She frowns, but I just cackle.
"So... What's the deal with Dad?" I ask quietly.
"Kid, you've gotta stop asking me so many questions. I don't know what's happening with Luke, or what will happen with Luke."
"Mom, you just called him Luke." I freeze.
"Yeah, so?"
"You always call him dad." I say in a small voice.
I get up from my seat and stumble to the phone.
"Y/n come on!" My mom protests, agitated by my apparent lack of understanding.
"Grandma?" I say down the phone, sniffling. Mom looks as though I've just punched her in the stomach and left her to cry.

"I'm so sorry, Grandma, I didn't know who else to call." I sniffle, wiping my eyes.
"No, that's quite alright, dear. You are always welcome in this house, just as Rory is." She smiles, leading me to the living room.
"So, if you don't mind me asking, was there a fight with your mother?" She jumps straight in with the questions.
"Y-yeah. A fight. She and Dad aren't doing so good." I keep my head low, fiddling with my sweater.
"How so?" She asks, pouring me a club soda from the drinks cart.
"She had a thing with Christopher." I sigh, and she turns to me.
"Christopher?" She's a very good actor, but she couldn't hide her joy that well.
"Yes. And now Dad's staying at the diner, and Mom's mad at me just because I want to know what's going on. I don't care who they end up with, whether it's eachother or not. I just don't want anymore secrecy." I wipe a tear from my eye.
"I understand, dear. If you like, you can go and see your grandfather in his study? He's got some marvellous new computer software that he needs help using, and I'm sure he'd be honoured to cheer up a young lady like yourself." She smiles, and I nod, following her to the study.
