Author's Note:
So here's my second one shot! Thank You again Sara for proof readings and Gabi a well. Love you guys, Enjoy!Winter nights at Ingleside were filled with laughter and long talks by the fire. The Blythe children often times let their imaginations run wild, thinking up an abundance of bizarre things to talk about. They, like their mother, were filled to the brim with curiosity, usually resulting in countless questions for their parents.
Anne and Gilbert were happy to answer their children's questions, feeling a sense of nostalgia upon seeing them so inquisitive and enthusiastic about learning. It reminded the pair of their school days.
On one especially cold night while they all sat around the fireplace, Jem looked over to his parents and asked, "How did you two fall in love?"
Anne and Gilbert exchanged a quick look of shock before Gilbert spoke up, "Well, I don't quite remember the exact moment that I knew I loved her. When I first saw her I thought she was cute, and now when I look at her I see my whole world," he looked over at his wife with a smile, "Maybe you'd like to tell them your side of the story?"
"Well children," Anne started, "do you know the story of paper planes?"
************
It started as a normal day, Anne met up with Diana to walk to school as usual and they chatted idly the whole way there.
Once they arrived, the classroom was alive with its expected commotion. Miss Stacy hadn't arrived yet, allowing the students some free time. The two girls took their seats and continued their conversation.
"Anne, I don't understand how you of all people don't believe in soulmates. You love romance!" exclaimed Diana.
Anne knew the story. She knew that supposedly, if you threw a paper plane it would lead you to your soulmate.
She knew the story, but she didn't care.
"It's not the I don't believe, I just find it silly. Why should the universe decide who I get to be with? Shouldn't it be up to me how I live my life and who I spend it with? Why should two people be forced to settle for one another because they are told that's how it works?" Anne argued.
"I suppose that's true, but I personally love the idea of soulmates and I can't wait to meet mine someday," replied Diana.
"I know that will be a joyous day for you, however I can't help but feel some resentment towards whoever they are. After all, they get to spend the rest of their life with you while I'll be alone, without my lovely kindred spirit," Anne responded sadly.
"Oh, Anne. You won't be alone. I'll always have time for you, no matter what. Besides, you'll have your own life mate, of your choosing, to be with," Diana said, attempting to cheer her bosom friend up.
"That's assuming someone would actually want to be with me. If I'm going to get my tragical romance, it's going to be with someone who loves me for me. Which I highly doubt anyone could do. I guess that I will just have to accept the fact that I'll be forever alone," said Anne hopelessly.
Diana just sighed in disappointment. This wasn't the first time she'd heard Anne talk poorly of herself. But all of Diana's efforts to dissuade her of these ideas only resulted in arguments. She decided it best to back off, no matter how badly she wanted to help.
