The next day was absolutely busy. Everyone in the house kept rushing past me, barely stopping to talk.
"Hey, what's on the menu for tonight?" I asked one of the maids, that I have seen around the house the few times I have gone to the kitchen.
"Sorry Mistress Hunter, I have no time to talk," the lady said to me as she grabbed a tray full of fruit from the chef.
"But-" The lady disappeared behind a door, not before she shot me a look of jealously? Not really sure why she would be jealous of me.
After trying to talk to several different people, and getting multiple of nasty looks in return, I gave up.
I have always loved the sound of nature, but you know, being where I currently am and all, I couldn't really enjoy those sounds. I mean I could be sadistic and enjoy the sounds of tortured souls receiving forever and a year of punishment, but that really isn't my cup of tea.
I left the first floor of the house and went up to the second floor, to my room. When I opened the door, I found Anthony sitting on the foot of the bed.
"Um, hello. What are you doing in my room?" I asked him. He stood up and stared at me.
After a few seconds of awkward silence, I gave up. I couldn't hear anything Anthony was saying. For some odd reason, I lack that ability.
"It's fine. Don't tell me." I walked over to my bed and flopped down on the mattress. "Is it always this hectic when Lucifer holds a ball?" I asked.
Anthony shook his head and continued to stare at me.
"I do not know why someone would hold a ball at midnight. On top of that, it's going to last four hours! Come on! Now, if you are not here for any specific reason, I would like you to get out of my room. The ball starts in three hours and I would like to get some sleep."
Anthony shook his head again and motioned for me to follow him. "Come on!" I complained. "I just laid down." I got up from the bed and followed Anthony.
I followed Anthony to the basement of the house. "You know, being down here brings back memories," I shuddered. Last time I was down here, bad things happened.
Anthony gave me an apologetic look and continued walking. Finally, he stopped in front of the room that Miss Lillie and Zaphara shared. "Oh, you could have told me this is where I was going," I said. "Well, I guess you would have if I could hear you. Thanks, big guy, I'll see you later? You're going to be at the ball, right?"
Anthony shook his head. "But why?" I asked him. He once again stared at me, and I sighed. "You know what, do you know sign language?"
He nodded his head. "Really? Wow, I wish I knew that a long time ago."
"Okay, so tell me, why won't you be at the ball?"
After thinking for a second, he finally started to sign. Not invited.
"What? You weren't invited? Why?"
Because no one asked me to go. It is an exclusive ball. Important people only get in.
"But, you are important," I said.
Anthony shook his head. Not really.
"You are important, Anthony, and I want you to come. Okay? I am inviting you to this ball."
Anthony nodded his head slightly and looked behind me. I turned around to see Zaphara and Miss Lillie standing there.
"You can't just invite anyone," Miss Lillie said. "He doesn't hold any kind of status down here."
