Chapter 2

I let it fall, my heart

And as it fell, you rose to claim it

You woke up when you felt a ray of sunshine gently caressing your skin. Slowly you opened your eyes.

"Where am I?", you muttered and looked around. You lay in a huge, white bed (it was big enough for two people to sleep in) with many pillows and a large pink blanket.

This bed was in great room with two windows, a big white wardrobe, a desk and a mirror.

"You're in a manor house of the Rainsworth family", said a voice from below. You were frightened when you saw a man appearing from under your bed, but you didn't scream. It was the man you saw yesterday. Or was it the day before yesterday or a week ago? You weren't sure.

He stood up and smiled at you.

"Finally awake?", said a mocking voice from his shoulder; it was a little blue doll with long blond hair and a pink "dress".

"What is going on here? Why the hell can this doll speak?", you shouted.

An ache from below your chest- your wound- made you catching for breath. You placed one hand on it. The man saw this.

"Ah, does it still hurt? Oujou-sama took care of your wound and" , he began, but you interrupted him.

"Who is 'Oujou-sama' and who the fuck are you?"

You looked into his one red eye. You liked it, it had a beautiful colour. Crimson...

"I see you have a lot of questions and so do I. Maybe you want to have a tea with me? Then we can talk a bit" Damn, his voice was so soft...

He walked across the room and opened the door.

"My name is Xerxes Break and Oujou-sama is Lady Sharon, she's the granddaughter of Miss Sheryl Rainsworth; the current Mistress of the Rainsworth family. I'm their servant". He bowed and walked through the door.

"Follow me~", he sang.

You went into the great saloon. Xerxes Break and a girl sat at a grand table. On it were many plates with cakes, cookies, cupcakes and a lot of other sweets.

Break pointed at the seat next to him and you sat down.

The girl(she sat on the opposite side) poured some tea in a cup, wich was in front of you. She had long, cream colured hair with a touch of red and big, dark pink eyes.

"Hello", she said with a smile, "I'm Sharon Rainsworth, it's nice to meet you, Miss...?"

"(y/n)"

Break shook his head and took a piece of a cake. To be exact his fifth piece of cake.

"Is that true (y/n)?", he asked, "Or should I better say Princess Maximiliane of Risingstale?"

As pale as Breaks' hair and with wide opened eyes you stared at him.

"H...Ho..How?", you stuttered. The tea cup fell out of your hand.

Break glared at you.

"I knew it! You want to know how? That's easy: your wound. As I carried you here, you lost a lot of blood and also your wound was very deep. A normal human would have died; but you survived. You had to be a royal girl, the daughter of a king, cause everyone in the royal family has a particular gene; they don't die easily!" Break put the last crumbs of his cake in his mouth.

You laughed nervously. "Ahaha, yeah, you're right, but my family was dethroned... And since that we lived undercover. And also, I know about the Rainsworth and the other three families. My parents worked for Pandora. I also know everything about the abyss."

Break and Sharon smiled again. Somehow, this was a bit scary...

"They died ten years ago, during a mission..." Sadly, you lowered your eyes.

Then you narrated them the rest of your past; how you ran away and guarded a prince, how you entered a contract with Kaichō, how you fled,  until you got here.

"I'm really interested in you", Break said when you finished talking.

You blushed.

"What the hell are you talking about?"

He began to laugh. "I didn't mean it like that, I meant you're an intresting person: A royal who lived undercover and became an illegal contractor, don't you want to stay here with us for a while?"

He looked softly at you. Everytime he looked at you, your heart skipped some beats... What on earth was eating you?!

"I wish, I could, but if I stay here any longer, Kaichō will find me...and..."

"I know", he said, "Maybe I have to talk to him, how he should treat you"

"Really? How do you want to do that?"

He smirked maliciously and sang: "Hihi, I have my methods~"

"Huh?! But if you hurt him, you will also hurt me!", you shouted.

"Don't worry, don't worry, I know a good method, you won't get hurt~"

You're eyes began to spark.

"Wow! And you really want to do that for me? You're amazing Break-san!"

"Haha, Break is enough."

You both giggled

Then he stood up.

"I'm going now, I have to do something at Pandoras' Headquarter. Hey, Maxi-chan, dont you want to come with me and sign at Pandora, to work there?", Break asked.

"Why are you calling me Maxi-chan?", you muttered.

He grinned

"Just for fun; I want to tease you a bit." You looked annoyed at him and answered:

"You love to vex people, don't you? But if it makes you happy, than you can call me like that, but not in the public! My real name is a secret, 'kay? And now, let's go and visit Pandora"

He hopped through the room . "But before we go, you should change your clothes."

Abruptly you noticed, that you were wearing just a nightgown.

"Dont worry, we got you some new clothes", he whispered, "See you in the carriage"

You sat in the carriage and across you were Xerxes Break. Now you wore along red dress. He eyeballed you...

"Nice!", he whispered.

"Stop teasing me!", you shouted angrily and with red cheeks.

"I'm serious", he replied. Embarrassing...

Then you both were silent for the next half hour.

"You have a fake name, because you want to live undercover, but is that really the only reason?", Break asked finally.

"You're perceptive", you ascertained, "I want to forget, that's the other reason."

"We have much in common", he said as he looked you in the eyes.

"What do you mean? Did something terrible happen in your past?"

  

He snorted and stood up. You looked at him questioningly. He came over to you with one step and flopped next to you. Then he laid one hand on your shoulder and moved his head closer to you. You blushed again. He whispered into your ear:

"At first I didn't want to tell you, because I thought it would be better if you don't know, but now I changed my opinion; I'm gonna tell you about my past, but not now. The walls have ears, ya' know?" He leaned back, but he didn't go back to his seat, so you both sat the rest of the ride next to each other.
