My body jolts awake. I groan running my hands over my face. I've got to stop waking up like this. I take in my surroundings in hopes that everything from yesterday was a dream, but sadly it wasn't. Slowly pulling the covers off I slide out of bed and reach in the drawers for a bra, a tank and some cargos.
Quickly throwing them on I pull my hair into a half up half down style and begin to brush my teeth. I wonder how this works do we get straight to work, wait for a message from Edith or what. I rinse my face with cold water and quickly grab my towel so it doesn't drip all over me.
I hate when that happens. Grabbing my boots I slide them on then make my way out of the room. Everyone is definitely up. The smell of burnt toast fills the air and I can hear Phoebe and Luke arguing back and forth about not knowing how to cook. I can hear Drew laughing on the side. He's always laughing and there's no problem with that I just find it a little odd but I smile a little at the thought. Eli
is the same way. I don't feel like engaging in a conversation right now so I make my way to the living room instead. Out of the hallway now I spot Levi looking into a 3-D hologram of Main City. He's wearing a black shirt again with navy blue cargos and black boots.
"Morning." I blurt out regretting it as soon as it leaves my lips. He snaps his head up to look at me as if I frightened him but I doubt I did.
He doesn't say anything just nods and goes back to the hologram. I walk over to the hologram and stand across from him.
"Is that our first location?" I question knowing he's probably not going to answer, but surprisingly he does.
"Yes." He says, his voice is deep. Not the exact response I was looking for, but still something. He turns his head towards the hall revealing question mark tattoo behind his left ear that I didn't notice yesterday. I watch as he balls his hands into fist, and cracks his knuckles one by one. A moment later Drew, phoebe and Luke come walking out of the hall.
Drew locks eyes with mine and smiles.
"Good morning!" Phoebe says with joy in her voice, and pulls me in for a hug. I groan from how tight she embraces me.
"Tight." I manage to say tapping out. Luke plops down on the smaller couch and leans his head back against the window. Drew stands by Levi who I guess is about to discuss a plan, and Phoebe stands next to me.
"So what's the plan?" I question scratching the back of my neck.
"Ooo look at new girl calling the shots." Luke chuckles. Levi looks at me then back at the hologram.
"The Key to The City. It was just delivered to some stone museum around Marlin Road this morning." Levi explains.
" Stone Rock Museum?" I question and they all look at me. I take the silence as a yes and explain myself.
"My dad used to take me there when I was younger." I explain taking a seat on the larger couch.
"Woah you're cool." Luke says sarcastically.
"Well that's great Erra you can help us get around." Drew mentions and I nod.
"The stone's located in the east wing they should be putting it on display now." Levi says rubbing the back of his ear.
"Okay so what's the plan?" Phoebe asks playing with the zipper on her jacket. I'm about to answer, but Levi jumps and takes the spotlight.
"Luke I need you to hack into the security system from the outside. We might be working with The Pexagon, but if we get caught they don't know us." He says pulling up a hologram of the museum. I never really thought about that. Nobody knows about The Keys, and it's not like we can stop and explain to them that the stone that their showing off basically keeps our cities standing. On top of that I doubt they'll believe us.
"Erra and Phoebe go in as guest. You said you went there a lot right?" He asks looking at me and I nod.
"Okay the workers haven't changed. Drew and I will stand backup. Erra I'll give you a signal to pull the fire alarm. After everyone is evacuated Phoebe work your magic on the glass case and get The Key. We only have five seconds to grab it and go, got it?" He slightly raises his eyebrows, his arms still crossed. It seems like he's had this planned for years.
"That's it?" I ask standing from the couch. Everyone looks at me and begins to chuckle.
"Yea...I'm gonna go get the van." Luke says standing up and walking out the front door. Phoebe gets up and puts her hand on my shoulder.
"Don't stress it." She says her voice a bit softer. I'm not stressing ,what Levi said sounds okay but something is telling me there's more to it. She zips up her jacket and walks out the front door. Drew follows her leaving me and Levi alone. He turns off the hologram and grabs his black leather jacket off the chair. He's about to go out the door but stops and looks at me.
"You ready?" He asks holding door knob.
"I ... yea I am." I lie my stomach is in knots. One wrong move and this plan falls apart. Levi opens the door and holds it until I walk in front of him. We make our way down the stairs, and out the first door. The sun is fully exposed today no clouds, better than yesterday. Luke is parked in a white van disguised as a plumbing company van. The back doors swing open and out jumps phoebe.
"Where's Drew?" I ask then the sound of a roaring engine fills my ears. I turn to my right to see Drew speeding down the alley on a black motor cycle.
"Where'd you guys get the vehicles from?" I ask frowning.
"The Pexagon has garage one block down filled with them." Phoebe explains.
"Alright let's get this over with!"
Luke yells hitting on the side of the van.
Without hesitation I get into the back of the van. Blue lights glow from the ceiling, shining light on the ammunition displayed on the side.
"What the hell?" I whisper to myself, what is all this for? Levi hops in after sitting on the metal bench across from me under the weapons. I can feel him staring at me, but I avoid eye contact. Phoebe jumps in and closes the back doors shut.
"What the hell is all this ammo for?" I ask, all eyes on me. Phoebe sits down next to Levi, and just looks at him. He sighs and rubs the back of his neck.
"Let's go!" He demands totally avoiding my question. I clench my jaw and rub down on my legs that are now shaking.
Go in as guest, wait for signal, five seconds, grab and go I repeat in my head. The Van engine starts and we pull off. I can feel Levi staring at me again, I glance at him but he plays it off like he wasn't. Phoebe grabs one of the smaller guns, and loads it up with bullets.
I sigh and look out to the front of the van.
What did I get myself into?
