1:19pm
It's amazing how time only flies when you pay it no mind.
Slouching down in my chair I sigh.
This minute is taking an eternity.
I wonder if my mother is home. She hasn't dialed my com yet. Not even to see if I'm safe. As soon I decide to close my eyes the bell rings; a flat annoying sound. I quickly get up and grab hold of my things walking out of the class room.
Slowing down I look around in hopes that Eli would run into me, but he's no where in sight. I keep walking until I'm outside in front of the school. Sitting down on the small stone brick wall I wait for Jai to come get me, but he doesn't. I get up and start looking around, but Jai and Eli are nowhere insight. I sit back down and dial Eli on my com and it goes straight to voice mail.
"It's died...his com is dead." I whisper to myself, but it feels like a lie. I can feel my heart beat getting faster, and my hands start to shake. What the hell is going on with me. I stay seated. God forbid I leave and it was a false alarm. I'll give him twenty minutes.
XXX
Thirty minutes have past and no show.
"Screw this." I mumble shaking my head and getting up. I knew something was off. Picking up my things I start walking home. Taping on my com. I dial Eli again, still no answer. I begin running home. Soon enough my running turns to sprinting.
Splashing into puddles and bumping into people I spot the staircase to my home. Running to the top I speed walk to the front door unlocking it and pushing it open.
"Mom!" I yell, no answer.
"Mom!" I check the kitchen, not there.
"Mom!" I run up the stairs checking her room, my room ,all the rooms. I can feel my heart getting heavy.
"Mom!" I shout out running into my room and locking the door.
"What the hell is going on?" I pant pacing back and fourth. Then I hear it, the sounds of vans approaching and distant yelling. I stand on my bed and look out my window. My eyes widen to see Pexagon solider vans surrounding my side of the complex.
Is this some type of joke? What are they doing here?
What do they want? All of a sudden I hear voices from down stairs. I slowly walk out of my room and half way down the stairs. Nothing but silence fills my ears, and the second I feel safe the front door blows down. I run back upstairs into the hall.
"Errana Paxton!" A soldier yells. I slowly back up trying to remain unseen.
"Miss.Paxton we're not here to hurt you. We're just here to ask some questions." A female speaks this time.
"Just come out and everything will be fine."
I think, squeezing my eyes shut and slowly backing up hiding in the closet. I need to get out of here. I could try the window, but I would literally fall to my death. The back stairs are closed off, and there're soldiers down stairs ready to attack. I'm not turning myself in, not without a fight.
"She's not up here !" A soldier yells and I let a breath out as if I've been holding it for hours. Quickly I clasp my mouth because they're still here.
"She's not down here either!" Another soldier from down stairs yells.
They suck at their job; I think to myself.
Soon enough they move out, and I slowly exit the closet.
Fully out I close the door and press my head against it. My heart stops as well as my breath when I hear the click of a gun. I pick my head up to come face to face with a female soldier. I don't want to fight her, but I'm not gonna let them take me.
I slowly bring my hands up in surrender shaking my head and her eyes grow a sense of relief. That gun can't be loaded she's not here to kill me or maybe she is.
I'll take my chances.
She brings her left hand behind her back to grab her cuffs.
This is my chance now.
I step forward grabbing her wrist as tight as possible with my left hand, and elbowing her arm so it bends. She lets go of the gun but she wraps her left arm around my neck and kicks the back of my knee. I fall to the floor quickly fumbling for the gun. Grabbing it I twist hitting her temple with the butt of the gun. She falls to the floor by my feet unconscious. Quickly I stand to gather myself breathing vigorously.
I'm not making it out of here today.
I know I'm not.
Brushing myself off I fix my top, and I make my way down stairs just to be greeted by more soldiers. Six stand by the door all with guns. I don't move or speak, frozen in time I stand at the bottom of the stairs.
"Ma'am our order is to bring you in alive. We are not hear to hurt you. Kindly put your hands up and let us do our job." A male speaks up. I blink a few times and walk as slow as possible to the kitchen table without losing eye contact. My mother hid a gun under there in case of an emergency at any time. I slowly slide my hand under the table and wrap my hands around it.
"Ma'am be careful with your next choice." The man speaks firmly and without hesitation I pull it out and aim.
"Hold your fire!" Someone demands; a familiar voice.
"Hold it!" It's Jai, he steps past the soldiers and in front of me. I don't drop my gun.
I knew something was up.
"Erra put it down." He demands, like I'm gonna listen. I avoid eye contact and ignore him.
"Put it down." His voice softens.
I glance at him then back to the rest of them.
"Errana look at me please."
He needs to stop.
"Please." I give in like always. His eyes soften, and he gives me this look. A look filled with sympathy. He looks pass me and to whatever is over my shoulder. Not even a second later sharp pain travels through my neck. I cringe at the odd feeling and squeeze my eyes shut. I can feel it disseminating through my body quickly. A numb feeling takes over, and the harder I try to fight the heavier I get. My knees buckle and I fall on them. Before I can fall onto my face Jai catches me. Everything becomes blurry and slow, and soon enough gone.
